The reducer for Deltron has not been available here for many years. Our blue car has Deltron but the reducer wasn't available when our green car was under going a body restoration at Tiger Auto back in 2012. That's why it has Concept on it. The last car was painted in 2018 and has Martin Senour from NAPA. It as well as the 69 GT have the same paint color which is Ford Wimbledon white. None of our cars have a clear coat.
Concept (DCC) and Deltron (DAU) use the
exact same reducer... they are both acrylic urethane type single stage paint. I have sprayed Deltron (DAU) and subsequently Concept (DCC) exclusively since the '80's. I don't know who told you the reducers were different, but they are wrong. The mid temp reducer is DT870, low temp is DT860 and hi temp is DT885. The only difference is the catalyst. DU2 ( or DAU2) was the catalyst normally used for DAU paints, DU5 was listed as an optional catalyst (It makes the paint harder). DU2 has been unavailable for a LONG time, BUT DU5 is readily available and was the normal catalyst called for when using Concept. DX61 is an optional catalyst for Concept, and the recommended catalyst for all of the Concept clears (I use 2020 or 2021). I only use clear when painting metallic or pearl finishes (basecoat) as a single stage in either cannot be polished without completely screwing up the end result.
The ratio for mixing DAU would be 4 parts paint, 2 parts DU5 catalyst, 1 part DT870 reducer.
I really liked Deltron as it was very forgiving and you could wait a long time before polishing, the biggest difference with Concept is that it is a much harder paint and you have to polish within 3 or 4 days to get the best results.
When PPG altered their DP epoxy primer to make it lead free it really degraded the spray out characteristics... before it laid out smooth and after the change it was horrible. i remember my paint rep at the time told me to add acetone... I just used 10% of the normal DT870 reducer which worked fine.
I do not sublet out my body and paint work, so I'm speaking from direct experience.
I walked into my PPG jobber on Monday and ordered everything I needed.. He had to bring in pigment and catalyst from multiple locations across the state, but was able to round up what I needed
