Trouble shooting various issues with my restoration and find the one wire alternator is not communicating with my new volt meter. I was told to take a direct lead off the ignition switch to the meter and it would power up, it does not. I have a lead coming of the alternator and as per instructions it was suggested to be hooked up to the idiot light and is. I know someone out there has my answer so I'll wait before I start messing with it. Also measured voltage coming off the alternator at about 15 volts so I know it is working, brand new it should. Any help is greatly appreciated. Cheers, Don Lutjen

Is this a voltmeter or ampmeter? All the voltmeter needs to operate is voltage on one wire and a good ground connection on the other wire. On my Smiths voltmeters it takes about 30 seconds for the voltmeter to heat up and read correctly. You can find the 12 volt wire that is hot when the ignition switch is turned on and use that one to connect your voltmeter too. Eric
