Aftermarket Hardtop Found on Craigslist Sacramento Area

Someone should contact the gu and explain that tigers were not built to 64 and that the top will either fit cars from 59-63 or 63-67 .. not 61-67... why dont these people post pictures?

Wow,

look like the rare Astro top they did i think to allow people to sit in the back in a GT, hence vertical rear screen.. i used to have a picture of one in my webshots album before they closed the site down.. will see if i can dig it up and post it.

Michael,
he could be a person like the guy I ran into at a show in Pittsburgh. there was a tiger parked on one side of my fastback and an alpine 5 on the other side. he came up to the car and asked why someone put a sunbeam engine in the car. he went on to explain to me that a tiger was a ford powered sunbeam and the alpine was the 4 cylinder version. my 69 GT was not a sunbeam. he did not know squat about sunbeams. my point is that this guy may only know what someone has told him about the hard top and doesn't care or doesn't have the time to research all the details. maybe he had never seen a sunbeam until he found this one. he has something that he thinks is worth some money and hopes to sell it. it happens all the time. i'm sure someone with interest in buying it will do their home work.

Bob, my point is a picture would help sell it.. hard to buy something from a bunch of words.. which are incorrect. If you are actually trying to sell something you dont help your cause with no images and bad descriptions.

On the knowledge front, yes, obviously doesn't know much.. and hasn't bothered to try and find out, that said.. there are people who have been round the cars for years and still give lots of incorrect information.

I contacted the guy yesterday and asked if he had any other parts for sale--he said only calipers. Now today he has wheels, hmmmmm. If anyone wants I can go look.

That top is in the "so ugly it's cute" category.

The wheels look like some used ones I had on my Alpine and transferred to the Tiger at first; wrong offset, major rubbing on the front. YMMV

Michael,
this add seems to be the popular add for astro but have you ever run across pricing for these tops? I have catalogs from the late 60's showing pricing for the parish tops. it cost 162.50 plus shipping for a painted top in the color of your choice. full vinyl cost 25.00 more. you would think the top that covered the trunk would sell at a much higher price. it's a little off the subject of sunbeams but parish also listed a top for mustangs of the time. the auto world catalog shows a top on what looks to be a 65 mustang. has anyone ever seen one of the mustang tops?

100

You'd have to pay me to put that on a car. Like some of the early Tupperware sailboats just too thick too heavy and too ugly.

A picture tells a 1000 words , this time about his other Craigslist posting.

I often call on Bruce when I see a No. Cal. pick.
The best No. vs . So. rivalry is to snake the bay area guys out of a good buy in their back yard.
Hate to quote Forest Gump here ,but you never know what you're gonna get .There could be a air cleaner, or just rat poo under the seats.
Gotta kiss dem toads to find a princess..
Pucker up!
There is a SV in their hood up N.Cal. with what looks to be a Mercedes or Porsche VDO clock wish I was closer..

would you believe the catalog list the weight on a parish top at 25 lbs.

The astro fastback tops were used in a similar style on many cars, i have ads for datsun fairlady, MG, sprite.. they all use the same rear window and you can see how the size of the car effects how the ratio of clear to top changes on the cars... guess it also means that there is a greater chance of getting another window or the trim around it.

I have to admit.. i'd buy it.. just because its a cool aftermarket top... that said I'd put it in the car once to photograph it.. and then hide it under a sheet so i didn't have to look at it then after!

the astro fastback tops are kind of cool.. with a bit of modification they could look really good.
