Just got back from the Joliet, Illinois race.
It was a NMCA/NMRA shoot out race and we were in the true street class where you do a 30 mile cruise and make three back to back passes without opening your hood or trunk it was about 90 degrees out but we made the cruise and back to back passes without overheating :) I averaged 10:06 for the three runs but lost to a 10:003.
The class I run in is a 10:00 class
In times trails I ran a best of 9:50 @ 147.
A couple of guys that own tigers came out and wished me luck and took a bunch of pictures, it was great sharing with them.

Just a follow up on Jerry's post to say Curt Bowland and I were two of the Chicago area guys that went out to meet Jerry and offer our support. We were there Friday at the start of the 3 day event.

For those of you who have never meet Jerry, he is one of the nicest, most congenial people one could hope to meet. I am sure he has answered Curt's and my questions a thousand times, but you never get that impression talking to him.

Although I took many pictures for my own purposes, they are not as good or as complete as the ones you will see at http://www.britishv8.org/Other/JerryPorsch.htm. When I asked if I could take some pictures, Jerry just smiled and said sure go ahead, he has no secrets!

If I may just add a little to his reporting, the goal of the initial three trial time passes is to see how close you can come to not exceeding the bottom of your bracket. In Jerry's case, his was in the 10 second bracket. Since he does not have a full cage on the car, he is not supposed to run in the 9's. Well on his first pass he ran roughly 9.7 seconds and 143 mph! So prior to his second pass he dialed back his boost, or so he said he was.

That second pass was his best of the day, as he mentions above! When he came back in, he was a bit perplexed. I jokingly suggested maybe a block of wood under the accelerator might help. But when he checked he realized he had not dialed back the secondary turbo too. He said he was dialing the secondary turbo back by "4" for his third and final run. That is when he made it into the 10's at 10.22.

I mentioned that I noticed he did not have an air dam on the front. It looks totally stock. Despite that, he says the car is rock solid with no lifting tendencies at 140+ mph. Defies conventional wisdom, but that is his reality!

Anyway, just thought I would share things that I particularly took note of during the day. And my apologies to all for anything I have mis-characterized about how all this works. "Official" drag racing is a bit new to me...

And Jerry, thanks again for the vicarious thrills and making us feel so welcome to be around.

Interesting observation about not lifting tendency. This agrees with my own personal experience decades ago when the little car actually seemed to nest closer to the pavement as the speedo ran out of numbers. Very scary & foolish, but got the bragging rights anyway . . . . . .

Whats a northender doing in New Mexico? Purchased my first Tiger a couple years back and read about your car wondering if a class of 68 classmate still owned his Tiger. Do you ever make it back to the northwest. I have returned upon retirement and am living in Lakewood. Hope to hear more when you race again. Greg Schumacher

I will have to see how it will fit into our schedule. My wifes ready to move to sun country she has a few more years untill retirement. I joined the IBEW became journyman foreman general foreman then moved into management. Worked large projects thruout America. Retired in 2004. Got tired of my XKE after 30 plus years, wanted another fast English beast. Bought my Tiger TAC#482 in California replaced brakes with Willwoods front and rear. The beast shocks the new mustangs and camaros.
