Mk IIs at Monterey Auctions

I think "pretty nice" is a conservative description. Unless the market for Tigers has already hit a plateau, I'd expect a new record to be set.

I see they expect $150-$175k for it--wow that would be a fantastic number for the rest of us.

Hope They Get the Expected Prices

With only 536 Mk IIs made, there just aren't that many around in the condition of these two cars. I do hope they bring in the expected prices - except that many of us might have to raise the insurance on our cars.

Very interested

As a good friend will be selling his soon. Sure it would be a rags to riches for me but iit was great just to drive one and feel the subtle differences. So is it like 50 bucks to get in and you will be ejected if you kick any tires. :D

Auction previews etc

From my limited experience, W, the auctions with fewer cars at higher price points were so much more accommodating.

Gooding wasn't cheap in AZ. $100 for entrance and catalog. $200 in Monterey.
RM looks $300 as you must be a bidder or press
Mecum more reasonable, but thousand cars almost.

G was cool. For bidders or charlatans posing as bidders they allowed physical contact and vetting of the vehicle. I asked them to start it and they also did without blinking an eye.

BJ was totally the opposite. While you could walk around the standard lots, good luck having anyone tell you more about the car or open a door. But it's also neat to be overwhelmed with the inventory.

Might get to mecum, but that's day and may prefer to stay at track.

Ouch

Talk about separating the wheat from the chaffe, or the buyers from the tire kickers.
The big reason I want to see is I like comparable sales info. I have found that guys tell wives and even friends, without a CAT in the fight differing amounts when responding to the "how much did you pay for the car?"

But then, there was always the slap down I got when a elder Tiger owner gave me when I reported the price of $450 for a air cleaner housing. The gruff elder reported " WHAT THAT'S MORE THAN I PAID FOR THE WHOLE CAR!"

Like most all I have Champagne wishes and Caviar Dreams, but end up with beer and beef jerky from Costco. My fancy was first turned by that buy it now MK2 on eBay, and now the local one.

Where did I hear that old, "If you have to ask how much, you can't afford it lately?"

Pretty car JD

You going to put some blue LED lights in those white wheel wells:)

What are those seats out of ?

little things...

Beautiful cars both...

But as we've started in...

This red one is missing the black plastic heater control lever knobs... is this intentional?

Hope to see it in person next week. If so I'll grab more pics...

Nits

Are easy to get when there is no sanctioned punch list or pediciliuide for prevention or extermination even for the pro restorer,

But that does not include the niche Sunbeam restorer as most have been there and done that in the winners circle.

Why is there no sanctioned punch list on correct restoration cause we can't all agree ?

Mark II

And of course, there's nothing to compare to a "tasty two"

That car belongs to Alex Gabbard in Oak Ridge, TN. Before everybody gets all wrapped up in "How could he do that" it was a semi-basket case with most of stock Mark II trim missing. As I recall - the seats were actually modified stock seats with headrests he built himself. Attached are some other pix he sent me.

Back in the 80's there was a car out of Canada that came to Tigers United in Oregon with a similar paint job--always liked that style stripe in the front. Nice looking car he has there.

auctions

alex has two tigers with the same blue/white paint scheme. the second car was in the muscle car museum in pigeon forge,tn.
