Grill Bars Attachment?

I'm repairing and fitting my MK I front grill and trying to figure out how the bars attach to the grill opening.
I see there are left and right side bars and they are notched to fit the opening. There looks to be a hole on either side, at the level of the bar, that is not used to mount the eyelid. Is there some sort of clip that attaches to the bar and mounts in the hole? I have nothing but the raw edge of the bar that doesn't actually reach the hole. I did see a photo in a thread here where the bars were attached without the eyelid in place but can't see exactly how.
Any help appreciated.

Alpine Parts List

Since my car does not have the center bars, I cannot look at my car and answer your questions. However, the Rootes Alpine Parts List has a nice diagram of the parts used in that area and it does not appear that there are any extra fasteners for the outboard ends of the bars. It appears that there is a hole at the outer end of each bar. I suspect, but do not know, that the idea is that one of the fasteners (stud plate C20) for the upper grill opening trim piece goes through the outboard end of the bar before going though the body.
looks like the stud plates can slide along inside the upper grill finisher trim to match the existing holes in the body.

Ding, end is riveted on behind the surround (upper)

W knows I have a penchant for rivets.... and us trying to determine if those of a certain ilk were continuously used without fail, on an auto line, in the 60s, in the UK. (Hint: I don't buy into that perspective...)

In this case (crossover MKIA), what looks to be a 1/4" (or 6m OD) rivet, with round shoulders (eek, not flat top?!!). Need to rivet center on prior to applying the upper surround.

Longer backstory. Dad cut off the center bars at that tab (end) and let them there. The original bars, center motif, air cleaner, oil lines and a number of other items were lost in transport between AK and CA. Yet those tabs stayed on through media blast and repaint. Dummy me...

Thanks for the replies and very helpful photos. Upon seeing these, it seems that my bars had each been broken or cut off at the attachment holes. They are uniform and ground clean so it was hard to tell. They were not on the car so a bit of a mystery. I think I'll weld some stainless stock to the ends and re-drill the hole. The weld will be under the surround.
