Does anyone know how many Tigers were fitted with the rare, pebbled center grille surround before they were discontinued? Thanks.

B9472733 but now that I think about it more, I don't think it's original to the car. I think it's a transplant from a series IV Alpine.
 
When I looked at the Sunbeam Alpine Parts Manual, the Surround - Centre molding badge is listed, but under only one part number - 2226291. No "superseded by" number is listed. So what does this mean? Does it mean that the pebbled center surround was an error on the part of a supplier and was supplied in a single batch? That Sunbeams never came with them, but that they were a repo part someone offered in the past? Will we ever know the answer?

I believe Norm Miller referred to this unique Tiger part at some point a long time ago. I searched to see if I could locate that thread anywhere but I didn’t have any luck.

Sure would like to see guys post pictures in a album public or private of cars that are said to be original. Up to 3100 is a ya had to be there call and see lots of cars in period and unmolested shape.

The first series 4 Alpines had the center grill badge holder with the four slots. Somewhere in early production they switched to the smooth casting. I've never seen anyone come up with a definite answer of the VIN where the change was made. Since the bodies designated to be Tigers were built on the Alpine line using mostly the same parts I seriously doubt that pressed steel stocked two different badge holders. I do know that this series 4 Alpine with a VIN of B94101969 still has the original badge holder and grill bars that were in the car when Dad bought it in the 60's.

Interestingly enough, just looking at my BON, the two centre badge holders are shown side by side in a picture on page 159, with the smooth one on the left and the pebbled/slotted one on the right, but the caption underneath reads "Early and late versions of grill center bullet" which I think is a typo, and should have been reversed. I was always under the impression that the pebbled ones were on Mk1 Tigers and Series IV Alpines and Mk1a' Tigers and Series V Alpines had the smooth versions, figuring it was basically another cost cutting exercise by Chrysler at the takeover.
 
We recently restored an early MK1 with the slotted (pebbled) center. Our chrome guy offered the pebbles as an option ($$$$). I wisely declined in favor of the owners wallet.
