Finally getting my Model

Nothing like a 10 month wait to be disappointed.

I was under the impression that doors and hood would open to show detail, they do not. I paid a premium for a one of 24 examples and that limited number is written on the box and can be found nowhere on the case, base or model itself. It is very small.

I have requested return instructions for a full refund.

Bummer Duke.......

I have a bunch of really nice high end models of Cobras , corvettes etc
and the smallest size worth looking at is 1/24 which is the size that the Danbury mint makes ( brushed aluminum Cobra). Exacto makes some nice models in a bigger scale ( yellow Cobra CSX 2001) I wonder if we could get Exacto interested in making a Tiger...they are not cheap @ around $300 or so.
The yellow Cobra you can almost read the vin plate in the engine compartment
...nice detail

Awwwwww CRAP, here we go.......they will give me a coupon for the purchase price.

Diecasm reply -

Hello Duke,

I don't know where it is written that the hood and doors would open. This is a 1/43rd static model with a removable hardtop. All Homage Edition have always been hand-numbered on the side of the box.

Diecasm's return policy for a Pre-Order is shown on the Policies under Return Policy (sections a.ii and a.iv) apply to this situation:

a.ii: If the reason for your return is because you do not like the item or the item did not meet your expectations for whatever reason, you will be provided with a Diecasm Coupon Code good for the value of your purchase, minus shipping and handling charges which shall be sent via email after the item has been received and inspected by Diecasm.

a.iv: Pre-Order and Back-Order items may not be returned for any reason, however, if requested in writing via email to Diecasm, Diecasm may permit you to order an item of equivalent value at Diecasm’s option.

Since you have sent in writing your request via email, I will issue upon receipt of the Homage Edition a Diecasm Coupon Code for the full value as long as there is no damage to the car, the removable hardtop and the box. I suggest you send the car back fully insured via FedEx, UPS or USPS with adult signature required so if there is any damage you are covered and can make a claim through one of these mailing services. The Diecasm Coupon Code will be less the shipping and will be good through 12/31/2012 for use on any Automodello™ model.

Please advise if you have any questions.

Thank you,

Jim

Thanks for your quick reply Jim,

Thanks for the offer for a coupon but I would like a cash refund. You do not have any products that I am interested in. I will pay shipping to include insurance for the model back to you. Just be aware, I have many following this purchase on several Tiger Forums, I hope you will make the correct decision for the good will of your company. I waited 10 months for this and am disappointed, please do not make it worse by offering anything less than a full cash refund. I did not have your product for days or even hours before my decision to return it.

Please reply to the CCed email so I can access at work.

Thanks for your help in this matter,

Duke Samouce
66 Sunbeam Tiger.

Have any of you encountered anything that was a limited/numbered edition that did not have that information permanently marked on the item? Just on the paper box, really.....unbelievable. For all I know, there are 100 boxes marked 23 of 24.

When you get your model please post some close up photos as I would like to see how they compare to the K+R models that Wally Swift used to sell. Those were also some high quality models. Thanks! Eric

A minor point, but the 1/43rds that Wally had (the ones I got from him, anyway) were from Enco.

I have an Enco and a K&R Tiger, both had fine detail for the scale. I don't have the Automodello Tiger but do have other of their cars, IMHO similar detail but maybe even a little nicer on the finish. YMMV

24 hand numbered pieces.

I, like you don't read this as hand written on the box, infact it is what I would use as leverage as they have mislead you and you have it in black and white.

Limited items are generally identified with their number of the series as you mention.

If they won't play ball I think I would point out that the reason for the purchase was because of it's appeal as a limited item and it's future appreciation as a collectable piece due to it's limited numbers and that without a permanant identify mark on the car, that cannot be proven. ;)
...or something like that.

I must admit that for that sort of money I would expect a detailed engine bay.

Good luck.

The law in Cali regarding refunds reads something like 'a refund may be made in store credit but shall be made in cash if asked for'. May apply to you and probably would be the state where it was sold that would be the deciding factor.

And there is always the credit card company that may be able to help you get that refund if you've been mislead. Hopefully you used PayPal. I've heard they sometimes play hard nose and shut down a stores credit until the problem gets resolved.

If the box was sealed in any way and you've opened it there goes the authenticity. Nobody pays anything for something in a box you can't see or open.

I am happy to say that Jim (CEO Diecasm, LLC) and I came to an agreement on the model. I will be sending it back. I will receive a red Tiger and cash refund for the difference. I was completely mistaken thinking that the doors and hood open and there is nothing in the advertisement to indicate they do.

The reason I am getting a red Tiger instead of a full refund is that I want one. The model really is very, very nice and I feel that I can display the red Tiger much better than the black limited edition one. Automodello considers a "piece" as the complete package meaning, the box case, model and info paper. So the hand numbered pieces are indeed the box being numbered and that covers the complete package. As you know, items in the original box with all accessories are more valuable than if there is anything missing.

Over all, was pleasant working with Jim on this agreement and I will be more than happy to purchase from Diecasm again when Automodello produces another model I am interested in

Great to hear Jim Cowen is taking care of the situation. He seems like a nice guy, although I've never met him in person. Hopefully, if everyone's happy, he'll have Automodello revisit our marque some day (hmm, Lister LeMans Tiger? Wouldn't that be interesting).

He seems to "travel in a different orbit" than we're used to; while we might not be thrilled about getting stuff from, say, SS in ten months, Diecasm takes it in stride and I guess he has to, with waiting for dies to be made and approving prototypes (I understand this does not always go according to plan!) Myself, I wanted a Dual-Ghia, my wife ordered one for me and it was so far out in the future she switched the order to something else and still it took forever (past X-mas, Valentines day, our anniversary and my birthday, ugh). Somehow you almost hear the exchange between Rex Harrison and Charlton Heston: "When will you make and end of it?" "When I'm finished!" OK, that analogy is a stretch.

As for opening-door detail, I'm not what you'd call an avid collector. But, I tend to see such openings only in lower-end 1/43rds like Corgi, and the shut lines aren't pretty (my Iso Rivolta, for instance, has "dropped door syndrome" and unlike 1:1 scale, I don't think it's readily fixable); but sometimes I buy them just to round out the collection. YMMV

Both of my grandmothers passed away when I was 10-12 years old. On my mothers side I remember one of her words of wisdom, "If you don't have enough problems, go out and buy yourself some" Which always seem to ring so true for me that after considering those words I pass on many a purchase.

Glad it worked out and you're satisfied Duke without having to go thru a big hassle.

Doesn't seem that big to me ...... of course I would never where them. LOL

Yeah, my first thought was "y'all don't shop for jewelry much, do you?" :D That said, (a) my wife has small ears (b) we all know that Tigers have terrible aerodynamics, having anything Tiger-shaped dangling while in the car top-down at speed would result in some serious pulling on the ear lobes.

Hmm, now I recall, I actually have one of these, would only need one more. And this place could give them the needed "gold-tone" finish: http://www.mmmetalizing.com/index.html

Now, hanging the Automodello 1/43rds from ears would be overdoing it...

Here are the pics. The car IS NOT pink, camera just would not get the correct color. It is a very nice red, very close to my car's color.

Where is the Mary Kay sticker ???? I'm impressed they managed to
reproduce pitted chrome bumpers........

Playboy Bunny?

Mary Kay? Where's the figure (yes, pun intended) of the Playboy Bunny who won the pink Tiger?
