Hipo harmonic Balancer Question

I just bought a 5 bolt bell housing 289 for my tiger. It has the hipo 289 2" harmonic balancer. Is this going to mess up my pulley alignment and distance from the radiator? I like the balancer but would like an easy conversion from the stock 260. I will just use a stock balancer if this will create a problem.

Thanks Lee 1966 tiger

The font side of the balancer (where the pully mounts) should be the same distance from the engine as the 260 balancer. The additional width goes towards the timing cover, not forward.

I am 90% sure of this.

I had the same concern with the SFI-approved balancer I used on the 347.

Only 88% sure, but: Bell housing is at the backside of the pony, while the balancer is where the smile is. It will work great as intended provided that you don't also happen to have the hi-Po crank with the counter balance hatchets missing?

Regardless, you need to have the rotating assembly balanced with the front balancer, flywheel and clutch installed.

My 347 was balanced with a flexplate for a auto tranny. I had it re balanced with the flywheel and clutch installed.

HIGH PO Balancer

The balancer will work fine with a hipo or standard crank(same part). Ford added the hatchet to the HIpo 289 to compensate for the heavier rod bolts, 3/8 vs 5/16 in. On both of my Hipos, the POs did machine work on each rod to lighten and static balance both ends therby eliminating the the hatchet and the narrower timing chain. Then dynamic balance the complete rotationg assembly.
