1966 mk1a parts wanted

Chaps,

To finish off where Michael started, I recently went down this path to match the original trunk liners in my MK I.

After much research I could not find a new match for the correct OE black dyed tan masonite which is 3mm thick. It was however used as trunk lining material in the series I-III XJ6 Jaguar saloons, some of which must have made their way to the US.

The SIII used a large piece to line the underside of the trunk lid and I used two of these to replicate the original Tiger items, (side and rear pieces). Hard to find anything s/h that isn't unmarked as the Jag trunk area is very shallow and clearly some wealthy owners had no idea of how to close the lid "carefully"....

After using the repro plastic liner as a template and some judicious use of a jigsaw the result was items indistinguishable from the OE ones. All that leaves is to transfer the side brackets that support the false floor and you're done.

Hope that helps.

Cheers, Lance.

Lee I have the hold down and aradio housing ammeter .... but would be a while before i can get at the stuff and also would need to be shipped from afar.

I just noticed that we (CAT) sells a mirror kit for only 18 bucks. Should have looked on their parts list in the first place. Those of you that need a better mirror can now have one. It is off my wish list and I will place my order. I just bought a convertible boot and when it arrives I will see if the part I need will suffice. Lee

I keep updating my list, getting better all the time.

Need nice used mirror (late style): will buy from CAT the available kit
Kick panels (mine have speakers)
Original mufflers and tailpipes for tiger: skip this one someday I will find
Hood latch assembly late type original patina
Rear carpet over fuel pump door area and drivers carpet original nice
battery hold down (tiger): may get this one from member
convertible top cover small zipper piece that is on the drivers side. Mk1a style

Wish list stuff clock (working on this one reproduction face), radio housing may get from member, amp meter (may get from member), original battery caps that insert into rubber tube in the trunk.

Thanks for your help. Will buy or trade for stuff too.

I have a clock that is correct for MKIA and MKII. I would trade for a correct clock for MKI if you have one or can find one. Right now, it at Paul Breuhan's getting cleaned so I can't send pictures.
Of course, I would want one of equal quality. This one is very nice.

Check

With Lee and I . I have the early clock, on shelf waiting to go into my remaining Tiger. It is not for sale but as long as it's out of car it can get a scan and a copy. I'm all about parts alternatives.

Paul

The clock for a MkI (CE 3030/00) is much rarer than those for the MkIA and MkII. I have been looking for over four years and have heard of/seen only one...which I missed.

I will have the original mufflers and tailpipes available eventually. I pick my car up in 2 weeks.

Eventually I am replacing the motor, installing headers and new exhaust. It has not run since 1969, so I need to see if it will even be in runnable/drivable condition first. If not, I will sell them ASAP. If it is, it may be about a year.

Hi Lee:
I've got the OEM amp meter from my MK1A. A few years ago I swapped the generator for an alternator and replaced the amp meter with one of Rick's voltmeters.

The front of gauge is very clean. The needle was repainted years ago when I restored the car. There's a speck of what looks to be either some dust, or maybe a bit of mold on the inside of the lens. It looks sorta like a dandelion seed. :) If I took it apart I could clean it readily.

The back of the gauge has the usual patina. The unit worked fine when I ran with a generator.

I have no idea what it's worth. I'd love to see it go to a good home. To someone who understands and truly values our cars. IE: someone like yourself. I can do some photos if you're still interested.

Best,
Paul

Great Paul: We can work out a fair price. I will PM you and we can make arrangements. Thanks again Lee

Hi Lee:
I tried sending you photos via your hotmail account by I got some mailer daemon telling me the email did not go through. ???
Anyway, I popped the glass off and cleaned the inside and that little spot is gone. See attached. Hope this helps.

Concours or Correct?

I think the later cars had a 35 amp marking. I have one of those too and offered it to Lee already. I have the same out of a SIV Alpine.

Hi Warren:
My car (apparently) is an early MK1A. All the other gauges are Jaeger, if that is relevant. You're a guy who knows a lot more about the fine points of our cars than I do! :)

I said I think.

I bet one someone else will chime in soon.

There is always the fall back position of the dealer put on w/e he had laying about.

I think also Alpines came with alternators before Tigers as it was a MK2 revision hence lots of 30 amp ones.

I'm also think I am with you and my wish list is a voltmeter with period match face. I just want to know when the alt. stops working as rare as that may be.

Warren:
After I put the alternator in, I eventually got tired of "not knowing". :) So the voltmeter is one of Rick's and it works just great. I like its face- it puts up with mine. :)

Agreed

A voltmeter seems the way to go. The previous caretaker of my car went to some trouble to add some relays and sort the electrical system. My fix will be somewhat like yours but have a 30 amp face bezel and needle on a voltmeter I have with same needle orientation. MK2's had a 35 amp marking if equipped and gennie cars had a 30.

My biggest concern was connecting the two fat wires without burning up my car I used solder, lock nuts, and about a hundred yards of high-quality electrical tape. Held my breath, started the car, and all was good. :) Rick's voltmeter has worked flawlessly.
