It's worth mentioning that Cy's VIN indicates the SV was built after body B395010313, so it would have been fitted with a 3:89 with coarse splines. You guys rock. Looks like I'll be gong with Mark's 3:89 and possibly the master cylinder as well.
Cy,Happy 4th everyone! My car is back home! Ian Osborne (the one with the gorgeous '65 Tiger) got it going. We were 99% sure it was the rear differential, but nooooooooo. He disassembled the rear end and the "pumpkin" looked great - no issues. It turned out to be the rear brake line, which was severely constricted and not allowing much if any fluid to pass through. He replaced the line, put back the same diff, and I am off and running. Sure pays to have a seasoned Sunbeam guy work on your car - the diagnosis of the brake line could have been an even greater puzzle than it was. Thank you Ian! He's the go-to guy, and mentioned that he'd be open to other kinds of work on Alpines or Tigers.
