I have heard that I should finish my drink before I go for a drive and that a lot of you don't care for a cup holder...however, since I am not the only person riding in the car and I hope to be going on some nice long top down drives this spring and summer, I wanted to come up with a solution that would allow me to have a cool sip while crusing along with the top down (or prevent putting a drink on the floor only to spill on my nice red carpets).
This project kept me busy for all of 45 minutes (an hour including paint time) and so I thought I'd share. Parts needed: A picture hanger and a clip on cup holder from your local boating store...total cost under $10.
I simply riveted the picture hanger to the underside of the radio bracket/bezel towards the front of the car and cut off the curly portion (springy clip) of the cup holder. The cup holder can then be inserted into the slot created or removed for shows etc.
Bracket installed lower right
Towards the front of the car
Purchased cup holder with the curl cut off (but with enough left on so it won't slip out during quick acceleerations ;-) )
In place
Original look when removed
In Place
Just make sure it clears 3rd gear
Cheers
