And now for something completely different...

Craiglist also

It is owned by a member here with a substantial collection of Sunbeams and parts. He got the car this way from what he told me and it was one of those 80's fun things to do. All it needs is a big wing on the back and it can be the not so poor man's Plymouth Superbird. John told me he would restore it if could. I have traded parts with him and found him to be a stand up guy.

Warren,

I'm not faulting John, since I gathered from the Hemming's ad that this was done prior to him buying the car. It was a product of the seventies/eighties, during which, I'm ashamed to admit now, that I welded fender flares on my first Tiger.

You're right about the Superbird comparison. I was also thinking Lotus Elan or XKE.

It's a shame because someone took great time to shave off the stock sheetmetal and graft that nose in. It looks like Disney's Lightning McQueen in the front.

It ain't a looker, that's for sure but if it was a works prototype or a successful work race car people would be drooling all over it.

It's a weird thing isn't it how fame can totally change our view of things.

The 250 GTO bread van comes to mind.

It looks in good condition. I'm surprised that someone hasn't snapped it up with the intention to resto it.
Would be a money spinner I would have thought.

Call me crazy but seems like a good deal
.. Finding correct mkii metal trims will be a pain..but the sheet metal work is doable and the rest of it looks ok as a starting point.... Some time patience and you will be back to stock front.... More time patience and money and you are back to a stock car... Just glad they didn't tube frame the front.

Wow! Maxwell would have Loved it! Top speed would have increased when giving Sigfried the slip!

In a wierd way I kinda like it...just knowing the unmolested value tempers that thought though...

If I were to do all that work to the front end of my Tiger - I would have made the most (in my opinion) obvious change - and they seemed to have missed it --

MAKE THOSE DAMN SPARK PLUGS MORE ACCESSIBLE

John

It definitely has potential - I am sure someone could come up with a little creativity to make it look a little better. I will admit I have seen worse.

The inner fender and the chassis leg look a bit crumpled. Wonder whether it had a front accident before that modification...

Shark nose

Anyone knows the Vin number.!!
I making a file on every MKII that I see on the web.
My hobby !!!!!

Thanks

Gilles

No.

The car has a state Id Ca. NM posted that to Facebook. Owner and member told me it had rear end and trans and was TAC ed and shows that vin on cert. Call the owner and get the scoop on any unrepaired damage. You can also cross check with TAC no. to vin on STOA website.

The story of the Sunbeam Tiger is told on the Facebook page. The car was hit in the front destroying all sheet metal forward of the firewall and pushing the engine into the firewall. To save the car back in the 1980's the front was rebuilt with the fiberglass front end. CA issued it's own VIN probably because the car was totaled by the insurance company. It does have a valid TAC certificate.

I suppose you could always tell the gullible that the car is a rare 1968 Tiger prototype...........

It must be true

I read it on Facebook. As I said before the owner is a member of CAT and has other cars incl. all parts to repair the car. The car no longer sports the CA. tag has drive train that belongs to the car. Call the owner, FL. signed off on title. It is Tac ed under the proper vin. The Facebook beat down is not accurate . Its on Hemmings. I talked to him but not as a buyer .
