It's hard to start with where things are wrong on this car... so many detail errors.. so many "questionable" things..

you's have to not have seen another sunbeam to pony up 75K on this one.. and this is one where i would start to worry about its heritage..

the car was built to suit the personality of the owner when it was restored. the things he did were to suit his taste. it just wouldn't suit a purist. I know of one tiger with a continental kit on the back and full moon hub caps. that doesn't take away from the quality of the car.
 
Wow, for $75K I'd pump up the RF tire before taking the 217 glamour shots, and clean the seats. Maybe source a fan shroud.
 
VIN# question

Nice car for sure.

Question on VIN# procedure. What is correct for Bill of Sale and Title for the sale of Tigers.

For instance on this car.. is just B382000677 all that is listed, or is the LRXFE considered a must.
 
17 digits

A lot of insurance carriers get really confused when you do not have 17 digits.
DMV's have all that are on vin serial no of tag. We have a lazy seller here.

Pre 1967 no engine serial number was on record, however they may have gotten added later by different states.

In Calif. VW's and motorcycles and cars in general were stolen so fast and picked of motors

my VW has 6426XXX being about the 26,000 car. I always get asked for more #'s

It really depends on the Title that is issued by what state. There are some posts were DMV's or dealers have added digits. Or titling a car as 67 that was a 65 or 66 in reference to year first sold.

LRXFE is the same for US cars
HROFE is it for UK cars? only seen a couple of pics of cars with the steering wheel on the wrong side. .

Taste is one thing but almost surely Michael's caution is justified. On top the price is way off the market...

is the car being discussed in this thread what you consider a "quality car"? there is a big difference between owners taste and missing and unfinished parts.m Then again.. we all know you are just posting to give a polar opinion.. maybe you should scoop it up bob.. i could see you in it... suits you.

the wife and i were at the bash over the weekend and we had a few new owners show up with their cars. the cars had things you might term not right but no one said anything about it and no one said anything about the cost. everybody was helping them out with answers to questions they had and some asked for suggestions of what they could do to make their cars better. I also saw several cars on TT's rack and other owners helping to get things repaired. all positive attitudes, no negatives towards the cars. the previous owner of this car may not have been in the know and liked what he did to it and was proud of it. it probably cost him a bunch of money to get it to this point. he may have close to the 75 K invested in it. parts can be replaced or added if needed. it's sad that there are so many negatives thrown out when a car such as this shows up for sale. there are never any positives unless it is a perfect car. the 75K is a starting point or asking price. what it sells for is a different thing. for your info, this car would probably not suit me. the facts are that a couple of my cars were restored by an old guy near me before he retired from working on sunbeams so i'm used to a lot higher level of quality and workmanship.
 
i think you seem to be missing the only one missing the point of this thread, or a choosing to miss the point Bob. this is not a car at a club meeting, this is not a new owner showing up and asking what he might like to do or about his car..

this is a dealer who has probably bought this car and is trying to flip it at a price that regardless of what has been spent on it is way out of the ball park for a car like this and the car has some rather questionable issues.. and they go beyond personal preference.

I didn't bother naming all the detail issues, the incorrect parts, the missing parts, the mixed parts and in the case of the Tiger side trims.. part installed parts.. or some of the more concerning issues in regards to its "Tigerness". this post is more to show the car is for sale.. and if someone is looking at buying it hopefully they will find the forum and can ask some questions or get an idea of what is going on.

The dealer is obviously using a generic listing given they have the car as a 6 speed auto, with red interior (its not) and custom interior or they really are out of their tree.

Anyway.. all this is a moot point Bob.. we know you are not posting to contribute.. :rolleyes:

i wasn't to concerned about those.. or indeed the early style ST doors on a MKIA.. there were other things that concerned me more.

As for the grill... I have seen early Alpine grills in later Alpines and in Tigers.. but until this car i hadn't seen both on the same car..:eek:

it seems that every time an alpine or especially a tiger comes up for sale anywhere someone has to start telling the negatives and it seems there is very little mentioned that is positive. my point is that a positive attitude is a great attribute to have. I saw it this past weekend at the bash and at the Carlisle import. there were cars for sale at carlisle that were wrong or needed work but no one made a point of it. they just moved on after they decided it wasn't for them. i did the same thing after i looked at a fiat. I see it at car shows all the time. regardless of what the car looks like other owners seem to keep to them selves the fact that the paint may be bad or it's a clone or whatever. that's a positive attitude! this car appears to be at a dealer and i know that profit is not a dirty word. the majority don't know everything about a fiat, mg or whatever. they just know they either like it or don't like it. this dealer may be making statements because he doesn't know all the details of a tiger. this negative attitude popped up when bob Avery's car went up for sale. it's odd how that car was the hit of invasions and uniteds but some did their thing and turned a positive to a negative. if the dealer or owner of this tiger were to see the attitudes in print about this car i'm sure they would not be happy with all the negatives.

Based on the Mecum results, it looks like this car is $5 - 10k worth of repairs and missing parts away from being a $40 - 50k car.... Hopefully any prospective buyer will do a little research first....
HOWever, I do appreciate the Tiger prices being driven up, since I intend to sell B9471929 when I get B9471705 finished!

I think we are being positive that there are warning signs that this may not be the real deal, so we are in a way warning a potential buyer to be aware of this and check it out very well. We are not in the habit of bashing peoples cars, just making sure that too many potential clones don't start to get sold and pollute the waters so to speak.

Can be a bad word if it is obscene, and clouded in cobbled miss matched whatever was there when re assembled and inaccurate info on what is for sale.

Some have started by re making the black engine tag on the valve covers, or simply moving the original valve cover to a different engine. It is a slippery slope and some ski down it with ease.

If you look hard enough you can find stuff on most cars thru their vins and the tiger archive e mails. You may even find the name of a P.O. of your car, and the petty back and forth that can either tar or support the history of a given play toy car. Nothing beats real time one on one with a P.O. or heir. A car dealer will say what ever it takes to move the product that's what this is product and profit and fair game for us to pick on.

The copy from this ad is nearly like it was written for the old S.N.L skit the "pathological liar", with the addition "why it does have a six speed," and it yes was my wife's car Morgan Fairchild that's it that's the ticket!

Positive attitudes are great especially when you are trying to pass of a fake as a real thing. You are not going to sell many fakes with a negative attitude.
