CA '65 EBAY

LOVE the libre wheels...

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, does anybody have any history on this car? Is it TAC'd?

Cheers, -Kevin

Kevin--this is up my way, it has been for sale for awhile. If you are serious I could go with you or take a look for you.

Thanks but I just put my Alpine up for sale and gotta manage that first. At some point I may very well take you up on that though!

Looking at the front grill, something looks kinda funky and was wondering if anybody had any idea of what is going on up there. I'm trying to ed-ja-ma-kate myself on the Tiger market!
Cheers, -Kevin

What's Up Front

Kevin,

It appears to me that someone stuck an oil cooler with at least 2 rows in front of the radiator. This is a modification for this car. MkIIs had 2-row oil coolers, but they were mounted much lower and you would not see either of the rows through the grill opening. I think there was a recent discussion about the pros and cons of oil coolers and where they should be mounted in another thread.

We are all still learning, so don't worry about asking too many questions. You might receive a correct answer every now and then.:)

Personalized

Since you are a Alpine owner you have a piece to study and compare.

This red car has been personalized, with what does look to be a oil cooler. A alloy radiator which most often will not fit with the stock fan shroud, but some brands fit better than others. Aftermarket brake booster Lockheed I think, alternator big HEI dizzy steel hoses ...

Get you hands on a shop notes copy for some mo ed sha ka shun.
There is some dated material in but that's the part of the fun of it.

When I bought my first Alpine in 1988, it had a 'tiger 260' clymer manual which I may still have somewhere. It was beat up and I never really looked at it but perhaps I should now. When I looked at the pictures of this one, I could pick out most of the modifications but I was thrown by what appears to be a mesch front grill an perhaps the 289 double oil cooler. I'm thinking that a Mk1 shouldn't have either and that for $39k it should be pretty original and come with the original engine.
Still working on the price / options market value and appreciate all the tips and PM's of advice!
Cheers, -Kevin

MkII Oil Cooer = Bucks

IF (I repeat IF) that is a MkII oil cooler peeking out the grill, it is worth a few bucks. Unfortunately, the oil hoses would have to be redone if the buyer were to remove the cooler and sell it. And if the car has the oil hoses for a MkII, those are worth even more bucks.

One of the best things to get to learn about Tigers is a copy of the Rootes Shop Manual and the Parts Manuals. Folks sell CDs on eBay with them on it (among other things). For the parts, need the Alpine parts manual and the Tiger 260 and 289 Supplement. These have lots of diagrams showing many (but not all) of the various parts and can answer a lot of questions about what parts are used where on the Tigers.

Or... you can download them all here for free...

Colonist version

I wish someone would print up a US English version. Reading that book is almost as bad as trying to understand Sir Alex Ferguson:) Good pics though.

You can also download the Sunbeam Specialties Catalog as it gives the all important clues as to what the English name for a part is.

I suggested the shop notes as I had a problem understanding English, English :). CAT has a reprint available as the new update is in production still.

Great Source of Info

Warren,

The owner's manual is worse! If you want a real laugh, try reading the section about taking down or putting up the soft top, er bonnet.

The parts books are pretty good - not too much verbiage. Some of the questions posed on the Forum about parts are answered in the parts book. If more folks referred to the parts books, this would be a much duller forum and there would be less "discussions" between the various great contributors!
