It depends on what you are trying to maximize in terms of protection as well as inside versus outside. Assuming your car is in the garage, California Car Cover makes several covers. I have lived in the high desert where dust was a problem, even the garage - as result I chose the Dust Top cover. They also make thicker covers if you are looking for additional protection (if like me, accidently bump into the car and don't want to scratch it). There are many other cover companies out there, but California Car Cover has worked well for me.

Well if I include Duke's method I have 3 covers. A thin faded ox blood colered nylon one, a thicker tan colored CalCar type cover and the garage but I use the nylon in the garage as well. It helps to keep some dust from settling but the talcum powder fine stuff still gets thru. You'll need a car duster and learn how to take the cover off properly so you don't transfer the dust from the outside face to the inside face and help defeat its purpose.
The CalCar type might be better suited if you only have a carport. I carry the nylon one in the car and sometimes use it where ever I park and its going to be parked a while and just want to keep prying eyes off.

I have a California Car Cover. Good quality, good value.
The guy who detailed my car said use a cover minimally, as it will put fine scratches in the paint, no matter how careful you may be. Same thing with the "dusters" they make. I don't know, I'm no expert, but he seems to know this stuff inside/out, so I heed his advice and leave the car uncovered in the garage.
