Hi, just a reminder that we have a CAT meeting next Saturday Oct. 13th.
Here is the info:
We will meet at Mimi's right outside the Torrance Airport at 8:30am for breakfast and a quick meeting.
Mimi's is at 25343 Crenshaw Boulevard Torrance, CA 90505 on the south side of the airport.

After breakfast we will tour Fly "n" Wheels, a private car/plane collection housed in the airport.

Here is info for them:

If you can't get to Mimi's in time for breakfast we should be at Fly "n" Wheels by around 10am, their address is 3403 Airport Drive just north of Mimi's.

There is a little parking lot in front and signs that say 'JJ Helicopters' and 'MGL Avionics', we can park there.

After we get done there we will tour Mike McCluskey's famous Cobra restoration facility that's on the other side of the airport.

See everyone there.

We'll probably be talking about this at Mimi's, but in case you're skipping breakfast and joining us for the tours, I'd like to expand on Bob's directions.

From Mimi's you'll get on Airport Drive and then follow it northwest past the east end hangars, past Robinson Helicopters, past the Tower, past the Western Museum of Flight and then turn in at J.J. Helicopters parking area.

This is somewhere between a quarter and a half mile from Mimi's.

See you there!

Please take lots of pics for us----there was no way the wife was going to let me miss our daughters birthday for a car event.....:(

First stop was Mimi's for an early breakfast and a quick CAT meeting.
And then it was on to John Muckel's gorgeous Fly'N'Wheels collection.

For those with sharp eyes, check out the middle photo for the aircraft above Rick's Tiger.
Who can ID it?

meeting

This was a fun meeting, it was great that so many people showed up.

Also nice of John M. and Mike M. to give us a tour of their world.

Maybe zooming in will help de-stealth the plane that's visible over the top of Rick's Black Tiger.

More Photos From The Meeting

In addition to Buck's photos, here are some more from the meeting at Mimi's. As previously stated, we had a great turnout, with lots of Tigers, an Alpine, and even a Pantera.

Fly N Wheels pics

Bonnie is a volunteer "puppy raiser" for Canine Companions for Independence. www.CCI.org

Rajah is the LAB next to the Morgan with twin spares in John's collection. Apparently she was bored with the displays but all the people attending were real excited with Packards, a Marmon and Rambler to mention a few.

D. Mountjoy gets part credit for the picture of Bonnie and I on the way to Mimi's. I did the touching up.

Mike McCluskey's shop & the other place?

This was another sample of "car guy & girl heaven". Good thing too because Heiko and Susanne Boesling were visiting from Germany with their boys Robert and Johan. Heiko is President of the German Sunbeam Club.

Daytona coupes under construction faithfully by master craftsmen and another overwhelming bunch of fine cars. Slot car track Le Mans and they started that 8 cylinder GP Alfa Romeo with Ferrari Team livery. Sweet!

Edit to add 2 more pictures. These by photographer Pamela Frye. 1 of Bonnie and Rajah ready for the freeway and the second from another visit to a hanger after we left too early. Damn a Mustang!

The 91 Cobra in Rick's picture is the original "Essex Wire" race car.

Rumor was that it cost the owner 2 million for the "project" and then he took it to Mike McCluskey for the restoration. It's the nicest Cobra I've seen.

Mystery Plane

Buck,

The plane in the background is the Northrup-McDonnell Douglas YF-23 from the early 90s. I worked on the radar proposal for the YF-23. It lost the stealth fighter competition to the Lockheed YF-22, which became the F-22 in production. The YF-23 was actually faster and more stealthy, but not as agile, and was not as convential looking as the YF-22. There are still some in the Air Force who just can't give up the 'Top Gun' dogfight mentality. With today's superior air-to-air weaponry, I'll personally take the 'First look, first shoot, first kill' approach. It must be the Tiger in me.

Additional Fly 'n' Wheels Photos

Here's some more photos of the fantastic cars at John Muckel's Fly 'n' Wheels museum. Most of the cars were American, with the majority being pre-WWII.

More Photos from Mike McCluskey's Shop

Here are some more photos from Mike McCLuskey's shop. I sure do hope they had lots of shop rags around - there was a lot of drool to wipe up after we were there!

Other Collection Photos

After experiencing McCluskey's shop, we were treated to see a room which houses the personal collections of some other folks - three individuals, I believe. This is normally not open to the public, but I guess some folks know people in high places. This was a pretty ecclectic collection of American and European automobiles and race cars. They also had a really neat 1/32 slot car track setup.
