This weekend at WSIR on the big track.

I have been busy getting "67" problems fixed, new crank damper, fluid changes, race tires on, brakes and bearings checked, tuned sweet and washed.

This is one great car show plus the sounds and sights of racing vintage Ford powered cars. Best seat for viewing is on the track and I am really looking forward to this one. Most entrants are street driven licensed cars like Tiger Blue. There are also real racers and drivers testing and getting much more seat time than they can get in a real race weekend. SCF Tiger is entered for this one.

It is Mother's Day weekend but if you can get out to Willow to have a look Saturday I am sure Mom will excuse it. Only $10 to the track to get in to spectate. For insurance?

Will take pictures and post them here next week.

Rick,

Is this the track day that had Buck and Tom's cars running a few years back?

I gather the historic racing season is about to get under way over there... hopefully a strong season for the Tiger boys.

Are you running a GoPro or other on board cam? It might be nice to see some footage from the weekend for the rest of us .

Hi Michael,

Yes it's the event that Tom & I have have run in the past. The local Cobra Owners Club rents the track for two weekends each year. We like to use it to make sure all is OK before we head off to the first race of the season.

All Tigers are invited to join the fun. The amazing part is that it costs only $200 for the entire weekend and we get more sessions than we choose to run. And all levels of drivers are welcome.

Tom, Rick Mueller and I are running this weekend.

Tom & I have a race at Laguna Seca in early June. If all goes well I'll lock the car in the trailer and wait for mid-August and the Monterey Reunion. It looks like the Sports Car Forum Tiger will be the only Rootes product on the Laguna Seca track this August.

Buck,

Wishing you all the best luck for the Historic season over there. The car was quick last year.. just not lucky. Disappointing they are not having more tiegrs/alpines on the grid... hopefully there will eb a big showing for the 50th.. i still watch the Monterey vid now and then from a few years back when all the tigers were running.. monster, toms, yours, LM, Steve Acala's and the red one, would be great to see that next year.. with the HSC car in the mix too.

At the Phillip Island meet in March I spoke to the owners of the red vette that John Bowe drove at Monterey last year and think they are going over again... as much as i like seeing aussies win.. knock them off! Also.. speak to John Bowe if you ge a chance.. apart from being a really great guy and driver.. he really likes the Tigers. ;)

Willow Springs

Cobra Club Open Track on 11 - 12 May 2013. Been there and did it..half of it anyway.

All was not great for me and the Tiger. Drive out to the desert was delayed by 30 minutes of stop and go on the 405 due to construction.
After checking in with the other Tiger friends, Buck & Claudia plus Tom Sakai and Dan Walters; TigerBlue would not start? sounded like dead battery.

After Drivers meeting I borrowed a voltmeter and that seemed to confirm my Optima had died (it had not!). Jumping it with another car was just the same. Consensus was that the starter was toast. Argh. We beat on it and puzzled over what to do. About the time I gave up it started? Buck called it a case of FM? Whatever that means. Battery was tightened down and and I got Tech signed off.

I got 3 (20 minute) red group sessions on Track Saturday in spite of the problem. No other issues other than getting familiar with Willow's big track again. It had been over a year since I drove there. Getting comfortable again I was looking forward to the second day.

Then the FM went away and it would not start again. Has not yet without a push. I worked on the grounds (earth) and starter connections before I settled on the obvious. Starter (original type) was toast.

We came home early nonstop from Rosemond after a push and taking on gas while idling. Different route no traffic!

Tom Sakai and the Tripples were shaking down new stuff on Their race cars and scrubbing in tires for the vintage races ahead this year. Dan Walters was on hand to drive the SCF Tiger and attend to both cars. Regular SCF Driver J. Morton was driving out Sunday. Thanks to Claudia, Buck's wife/mechanic/caterer who provided me with three great meals when I was not sweating in or under TigerBlue.

Pic's attached. Sorry no on track video

Hi Rick, thanks for posting those pictures. Did you happen to get a video of you guys push starting your car after your starter went out? If so I heard it would be worth seeing.
