What color should the convertible top frame be painted to be original. Mine is rust color, which is probably not its original color. The car is a 66 Tiger 1A.
Thanks
This is a frame for one of my cars. It's a light grey that is used by Doug at Tiger Auto in Dayton. The photo does show it to be lighter than it actually is.
I suppose it was probably glossy at one time but it looks semigloss on this original paint car. This top frame spent the majority of its life in a top well as there still is the original Amco vinyl top installed.
The frames were machinery grey which rootes also used on seat frames... Interestingly enough sometimes its appears to be a darker grey.. Maybe roores adjusted the formula at some point.
@warren, wouldn't an Amco top mean it was replaced atbsome point?
The second owner got it cut in 1969 at USC and stowed the soft top. The original cut top was stowed and owner 3 never erected it, discarded the Parish Plastic top swapped his Alpine one on and sold the Alpine and the plastic top.
Of course these are the recollections of octogenarians or close to it gent's. Of course there's always the chance that the first owner got his convertible top cut the first year he had the car.
In any event it's some leftover British Navy looking gray paint.
You could probably clear coat some primer and be really close.
