I'm curious why Sunbeam used American fine threads on the the tiger body. Or am I just forcing 1/4-28 bolts into metric threads? They sure go in smooth.

they were not using the metric system when these cars were built. there is one screw on the seat adjuster that is whitworth. I think everything else is SAE. there was still use of the imperial system up to maybe 2000. sometime in the 70's when the UK joined the European union is when they started changing over to metric use but it wasn't mandatory.

My wife's '66 Sprite is all 'Whitworth' fine thread and is a LHD export car... Not sure what the 'big' Healey's had...

Probably shouldn't admit this, but,,, I've wasted a lot of time over the years looking for some odd metric or whitworth bolt. Why didn't I know this stuff 25 years ago?
