Dropping the engine w/ a 4-post lift?

I've dropped the engine out the bottom many times in the past 20+ years of owning my Tiger but I'm wondering if anyone has done it with a 4 post lift?
I'm thinking it should be quite simple and I like the idea of getting to the underside w/o crawling on the floor.
Any advice from someone that has done it would be appreciated before I give it a go.

I have never thought of doing it that way, I would be careful with the weight distribution though. Once you drop the engine and trans the front end will be pretty light (especially w/o the front suspension ) and I would hate to see the car flip towards the rear. I guess it all depends where you put the arms under the car. How would you lower the engine? Let us know if this works.

i thin it should be doable.. i would assume a trans jack would be the way to go. Is the 4 post list a drive on ramp one.. or one with the 4 arms? If drive on.. drive car on.. remove front cross member, and have the front of the body on axel stands on the box section where the X brace terminates. (rmember to disconect all hoses etc n the egine bay first and removed the shifter ring/boot from the tunnel. Then drop with a nice string bit of wood to help distribute the weight of the engine/trans combo.

I have dropeed alpine engines and trans this way before.. but the front X member stays in.. and they are not as heavy,

Good point. I would put 200-300 lbs on the driver and passenger floor. I put 220 lbs in my trunk to act as counterweight when dropping the engine. It is to help with moving the car up and down with a floor jack under the X member.
 
The FIRST time in 40 years of ownership that I ever pulled my motor / tranny was in June using my 2-post lift. A neighbor helped & it took the two amatuers about 5 hours. We didn't even use a cherry picker, just removed the front end, removed the headers & mounts while we temporarily supported the motor with a floor jack on top of a large dolly. We installed a pair of engine legs (stands)that mounted to the block where the mounts normally go, raised the car on the lift & used the jack to support the tranny. Didn't hurt ourselves or the car so we were happy. I think for the install we will use a cherry picker & the lift though.
 
I forgot to mention that using the 2-post lift before we did anything, we used one of those large strap tie-downs to secure the car to the arms of the lift, running the strap over the cowl. I also removed everything out of the trunk, as the front gets very light with everything removed.
