The small hole should have a chrome blanking plug. It is the spot for an overdrive warning light on alpine when fitted, on an alpine without OD or Tiger it has the chrome blanking plug.

series 4 alpines had this hole in the dash. the light to show that the overdrive was engaged went in it. the lense was grey in color. on non overdrive cars there was a painted metal cover that snapped in the hole. series 4GT's would have had the wood dash so they should have had the hole also.
