E-Bay Tiger

E Bay ?

I am amazed that anybody would buy a car on E-bay.
I was in a buddy's shop today looking at a Pantera that had just been purchased on E Bay.
When it arrived the brakes were frozen up and it could not be rolled off the trailer, it did not run, was not driveable, fuel tank was full of crap (engine must be removed from a Pantera to swap out the fuel tank). cooling system was full of crap, heater core plugged, burned wiring under the dash, cooling fan frozen. nothing works on the car.
Hub bearings are bad, engine was obviously just tossed into the car, axle flange bolts were loose.
All of this would be OK if car was described as a project but I got the feeling this was not the case.
Very few cars that I have seen from E bay were as advertised, a physical inspection before you commit is always a good idea!

In the early 2000's I bought a Tiger on ebay and it was perfect, just as described. Guess I lucked out on that one.

I found my Tiger on ebay. Turned out to be a good buy but needed lots of work. Sent deposit and then flew out to look at it, Oneoffive even met me at the sellers location to take a look at it. The seller picked me up at the airport, let me stay at his home and drove me back to the airport the next day.

Overall, a great experience.

I bought a garage damaged Tiger, the pictures were accurate and the car details were as well. I knew I had a gem that needed rebuilding and polishing. I am getting close.

Questions

You'll have to explain that one to me Randy. :(

Serial # is too high for that to have a round cornered bonnet as original. And, the small pedals are usually found in MK II & later units. Note photo has small clutch pedal on far left.

Duke: Oneoffive wuz ready to step in if the deal didn't cement . . . . . amen

Thanks for that Randy.
Thats something else I've learned.

Stuffed

Ha that was what I was thinking with the round corners.
Maybe it got stuffed into a un moveable object. Boy I'd like smaller pedals hard to drive with running shoes on...
Good eyes Oneoffive!
There are not enough pics but the ones that are there raise good questions. Odd to have JAL # riveted on.

Every thing I ever bought on Epay looked better in pics.

If there was am eBay Tiger you had to have one would be smart to look to the CAT roster and solicit a local member, if you could not see it yourself. Wonder who put the CAT sticker on the small window on the passenger door?

What do you think?

I actually was one of the bidders on the car. Went out to look at it last week. It seems in good condition overall, actually better than the photos. First owner did race it, or at least put a bunch or race mods in. Second owner pretty much let it sit for many years. Current owner has rebuilt the engine and clutch, got it on the road again. It would need a lot of work to be "concours", but is in good driving condition. Just a question for the folks on here, what do you think about the car given the bonnet issue? Worth pursuing or not? As far as the JAL plate, it was apparently removed during a repaint and riveted back on. It's in the registry, but given the history has never gotten an authenticity check or anything like that. Bidding topped out at $26k.

E BAY TIGER

Does it have a salvage title? It has obviously been wrecked eg a MK1 front end on a Mk1A. The question becomes how much damage was done in the wreck. Was it front fender sheetmetal or a whole front Clip . The pedal disparity maybe would think maybe it's a whole front (Alpine) Clip. The car should have a thorough inspection underneath looking for old repairs or structural damage since the car has no frame . it's UNIBODY.

The vin number is listed in the BON but there is no information on the car
so you might want to email Norm Miller and ask what info he has on the car.
I don't know how you would graft a early Mk1 front end onto a MK1a unless
the car was sectioned thru the middle of the door area and Xframe. It is possible and I know of a couple of cars that were done that way but it's not cheap to do. Getting a car to concours condition is expessive $$$$$$$ and body work and paint alone can go north of $35k in a heart beat. So it just depends on your budget and what you want to do with the car.
