Tiger presently on eBay

Says it's in the LA area, anyone know this car?
Has several "interesting" qualities, including both tags being obvious repros, with the "JAL" position tag not even having the right info or format, and the generator relief in the fender looking hand hammered, what little you can see of it in the pictures. I looked at an almost identical car last year in Connecticut (I ran away quickly) - I thought this was the same car until I checked the VIN, same style data plates, ect... Two rebodies from the same shop?

Long Beach Tiger

Bob,

Yes, those tags certainly raise suspicion.

At the CAT autocross experience event on Saturday, there was a guy looking to buy a Tiger who told different folks that he was expecting to meet the owner of the car in this eBay listing. I think everyone told him the same concerns Bob raised about the VIN number/"JAL" tag. He had folks tell him how some people have modified Alpines to make the look and drive like (or even better than) Tigers. We suggested he get someone who is knowledgeable about Tigers (or, better yet, a TAC team) to inspect the car before he buys it IF he is expecting to get a Tiger and not a modified Alpine. I did not notice that this car or the seller ever showed up at the event.

I have nothing against modifying an Alpine to make it into a Tiger, but do have an issue with trying to sell such a vehicle as a Tiger. I have no information that the vehicle on eBay is not a Tiger.

On Craigslist LA

As well for $25,000.00 No picture but exact ad copy, yet reserve is not met on Ebay the current bid being $31,000.00? The phone number is included only on Ebay. In looking at the CL last nite as it was posted then I responded by default CL e mail with no response.

Very newly Dec.2013 issued Cali. tag and how many cars do you see that go 39 code paint to 86 almost always they go to resale red.

If you are also a fan of Dexter and have a boat in Long Beach like I do all the pics are quite familiar, it isn't Miami Fla.

The exhaust pass thru look somewhat blended in, interesting fan shroud and overflow tank mounting.

I'd go look at it if asked. There are Club members who are closer than me. If there is a bidder reading this pick up the CAT roster and call one of us to go see this ride or respond to me and I will. My old tired sailboat is 4 miles away from all his pictures in Alamitos Bay and she needs a visit.

Douglas called me, he was unaware of the Craigslist spoof ad. He and I will be flagging it asap. He is a newer member 9 months or less and I have advised him to seek out our local Senior TAC inspector and El Presidente and further verify the id elements with Mr. Miller or Mr. Vickery.

I am confused on the LAT hood. Why cover up the vent holes for the air to escape? Also the scoop cutout looks funky. Clean looking car overall.

LAT Hood

I'm not sure that the car has an LAT hood. When I look at the photo, the underside looks too nice to be fiberglass, but looks more like metal. This would explain the weird looking scoop cutout. Instead of blocking off the underside of the vent holes, perhaps the black material catches hot air closer to over the engine and directs it to the vent holes further back.

When I look carefully at the photo of the underside of the hood, I don't see any opening in the scoop. Is it missing the opening for some reason or is that the photo is just at the wrong angle?

Looking at location of front of scoop from outside it's approx. 1/3rd back. From underside front cutout appears to be halfway back so angle prevents seeing opening if there is one. My 2 bits.

If you look at the red ebay Tiger it almost appears that it was rear ended at one time. The trim looks like it heads downhill as it goes back and the rear wheel openings look like the are "puffed" out a little.
