Hello all & Merry Xmas,
Finaly starting to rebuild the engine. The ID is C40E 6015C which is all good for a 289 made in 64. The unmolested block is painted orange? how come? I think it is an origional.

Doubt it, origional bore and origional crank. Only needs a hone for rings and standard bearings.

Bought 2 5 bolt 289's last summer same numbers 1 blue 1 orange
Had the orange block dipped and bored it's painted black now.
Have to agree with Duke on original color being orange, to much like a chevy.
Still can be unmolested internally

Colors ??

Doubt it, origional bore and origional crank. Only needs a hone for rings and standard bearings.

They came in any color black/blue/rusted, BUT, never orange or red !!

Still looking for 289 blocks & heads. C4 or C5 prefix preferred.

Old Core Values

What should one expect to pay for a 289? I saw one locally here and didn't know what it was worth.

Here is the one I saw by my house:

About 1/2 of the blocks & heads we try and purchase do not pass inspection after hot tank cleaning and flux. So, this make me cautious about long distance shopping unless from a known & trusted source. $200 - $400 is OK if they turn easy without making ugly noises. Flat pallet shipping of a bare block and heads is fairly easy and cost effective.
As a side note on the "289" you found; I have never seen a true 289 with a C8 casting prefix . . . . . .

289 FORD ENGINES

5 BOLT 289 C4 AND C5 BLOCKS are scarce, but most Ford guys don't want them which keeps the price low. In rural USA they can be bought for $100. Rebuilt Six bolt blocks are all over Craig's list, the price is dependent on condition.
