Gas Cap Hinge

The pin in the hinge of my gas cap has partially come out at the bottom, so before I do something to screw it up, I thought I better ask for any tips or experience with removing and replacing it. What tools did you use and what direction should it be moved? Your do's and don't's would be appreciated.

Tap it in with a brass drift or hard nylon only. First, paint some thread locker in the hole with a toothpick. If it is a persistent malady, consider reversing the fuel cap direction (4 screws) so gravity works for you. 2-cents
 
Thanks for the tips. Much appreciated. I worry about that white metal stuff and hate to crack anything. Right now it's about -13°F, so it will have to wait a few weeks before I can brave the garage. You California owners are a lucky bunch, using your cars year round...
 
Been a mild winter here in Washington state as well, driven Tiger nearly every week! Can't complain.
