12.3 was the best. Need to get my GD 60' down! Did not get the first run on vid as I forgot to start the camera. Ran with a chebby with fat tires in back and way skinny in front. We were .324 apart at the finish (he won) and .403 at the 60. I was catching him, was a great race. Really nice guy who loved my car.

Race#2 - against a Z28 that was loud as hell, crushed him by 3 seconds.

Race #3 - against some chebby four door, annihilated him by four seconds.

Just did three runs as many cars started to show and it look to be 30-45 minute wait between runs.

Duke,
Is that the innovate MTX in your glove box? What else do you have in there?
Great videos - now I know what my hurst-shifter is for!
Cheers, -Kevin

Always love videos of your Tiger performing. We have seen you at the drag strip and on an AutoX course, next let's see your Tiger at a track day on a road course.

get

duke,
he wasn't driving his car so he was taking it easy. besides that he's an old retired guy.

Duke , So you really think it would be easy?

This is against a Mustang with a 460 , C4 , and slicks. He trailer his car , I drove mine 60mi. round trip. I launched easy because I had broken 3 hubs in the past 2 years .

Mustang 11.8 Tiger 11.2

This is a 1/2 race with a ZL1 Camaro with 560rwhp(headers ,intake , exhaust and a tune ). I ran on street tires 205/50 15s.

http://youtu.be/8tF4o6l66wk

Earlier in the day (cooler ) I ran 149.6mph. A Ferrari 458 ran 151mph.

Don't AutoX much anymore (takes too much time ) but in the last 4 events the car has had 2 FTDs and a 9th out of 125 cars where there 5 former SCCA national champions at the race .

Current set up: Aluminum 363ci. w sequential port fuel injection 460rwhp
Coil over front suspension
T5 transmission with G Force gear set.
3 Link coil over with full floating 8.8 Ford rear end , T-2R
Torsen with 31 spline axles
3 in. driveshaft with 1350 U joints
Weight 2290lbs. (autoX set up) 48.5% F 51.5% R

Scary Macho Stuff

Never had the urge to punish a Tiger on the strip. BUT, if we were to field a straight line toy, it would have a beefed C-4 in it. OR, Perhaps a lower 1st gear toploader to keep the clutch happy. Back in the day, ole # 78 would leave them gaping as long as we had a rolling start, but it hated trying to leap from zero. I'm much more accomplished now while watching from the lounge chairs. Although we did give the Bail Bonds Cobra a primary road test to de-bug a few thing (flooding). The cops showed up real quick. "Howz my halo lookin'?"

Ah that explains the no fear as the car was lifting wheels and bouncing away... i'm thinking a tiger hasnt seen that sort of spice since their works rally days... or some of the guys like Partick Watts who still rally them in the UK....

I'm glasd you guys dont run wide slicks.. sooner or latter you will launch and sping the world backwards!

take 10 steps and fire...

...up your engines! I believe Duke has met his match- a side by side duel, perhaps? I love a good match race (as well as fast Tigers).

Given all that NO! Nice build 347. Love to see high HP Tigers putting it to them at the strip. Would love to get some advice from you on improving my 60' times.

What tires were you running?

Yep.. I can see that could be an issue... I'd heard that running the 'lightweight' Alpine top was popular 'back in the day' :D

a couple extra wheels out the back seems to help! :D

Duke you are a naughty boy... that jackets not fireproof ... and that helmet was not ON!

i want to see you outdo this Tigert owner...

I was at the united at Boyne City, had my car TAC'D That was Doug Jennings driving Hugh Guynes' car. The car puts out 440 Hp may be more at the rear wheels. They had to strap the drivers door shut because it would come open
when they nailed it out of the corners and the wheels came off the ground
very exciting to watch. Kevin

Alpine Hardtops

The rounded hardtops for Alpines fit only Alpines that were Series 1 and 2. The dimension from the windshield frame to the trunk hinges where the hardtop pins into is different than the same measurement on the Series 3/4/5 Alpines and all Tigers. However, there were aftermarket removable hardtops (which looked like the early Alpine factory hardtops) for the later series Alpines and Tigers.

I know about the dimensions because shortly after buying my Tiger back in 1970, I bought a removable early Alpine hardtop. My car was in the shop so I couldn't take the car when I went to buy the hardtop. So I measured the distance between the windshield fittings for the front clamps and the distance between the holes in the trunk hinges for the rear attachment. I failed to measure the distance from the front to back. Sure enough, the early Alpine hardtop had the same distance between the clamps and it had the same distance between the rear pins. So I bought it and took it home. Only when I got my car out of the shop did I find out my mistake. Fortunately, a friend of mine owned a Series 2 Alpine, so I made him a good deal. My lesson only cost me $25, as I recall.

CAR TO THE DRAGS

\Jegs and Summitt Racing show M&H slicks 13" x 22" x 8" , slightly larger diameter than my old Goodyears you serimoniously distroyed in your burnout vidio. The small diameter would help lower your gear ratio for better launch.

people

it looks like the side windows were cut to fit the early style tops.

Duke, At the strip I run a Mickey Thompson DR 225/50 15 .
For good 60 ft. times track prep is very important . Ask the workers how the track is the day you run. A good track prep can be the difference between a 1.8 and a 1.6 short time. If possible this time of year in the Midwest try to run on a day when the Sun has heated the track during the day. Finally , get to the track early, let the car cool down and put in a new set of spark plugs.
Back in 2007-08 when I was making 370rwhp ( 3.07 gears ) I could run 11.8 @ 118-19 mph with a 1.8 60 foot time.
Your car certainly has the power to get into the 11's , you just need the right conditions.

May Be an Alpine Hardtop

In looking carefully at the photo of the red Tiger, it looks like the trunk hinges are farther back than the back of the hardtop. I'm wondering if it isn't an early Alpine top that just isn't pinned to the trunk hinges, and they are relying on the side clamps (along with the windshield frame clamps) to hold it in place. Or they used some other mechanical attachment to the body in back. And there is no way they could roll up a stock window with that top in place. Maybe they cut it down or they did not bother with rolling up the window.

David,

The early tops also have a different profile along the top of the windscreen frame. They dont use the same side clamps.. they use a bolt to screw into the B post, this makes them annoying vs the late series.. not only for time taken.. but you have to get the pressure right side to side.. and depending how tight you clampp them effects the clips on the screen. The rear pins on the early cars are also spring loaded...

O.K. ... Here's the way I 'heard' it...

1. You had to race with a hardtop installed

2. The Alpine top was 'used' to save some weight and comply with the 'rules' ...

Functionality
would be a whole 'nuther matter !

..The 'Racer's' edge ;)
