Brian Glenn has an article in the current ( Jan-Feb) issue of Tiger Tails, Mystery of the Gold Tiger. I purchased my first Tiger when I began Dental School in 1971. It was Gold in color and from everything I remember was not a respray. It was purchased used from a foreign car specialist in Lansing Michigan. The name of the specialist now alludes me, but he later told me he had a difficult time selling it because of the color and considered repainting it in a traditional Sunbeam color. It was titled as a 1966 Roots Roadster. Manufactured in 1965 but in the day, they were titled in the year first sold. I had the Tiger until 1975 when I sold it to buy my first new car, a Corvette. Latter regretting the sale I found a 1967 MK1A in South Carolina. A two owner car in perfect original condition with history back to the selling dealer in Florida. That title is for a 1967 Sunbeam Tiger, not a "Roots Roadster". As a side note, that car was used by Hagerty Insurance when they did a Tiger restoration 2 years ago. They spent the better part of a day at my shop in Elk Rapids Michigan taking measurements, photos of engine bay, accessory locations, interior fittings and trunk attachments, jack clips ect. everything now made of unobtainium.
If Brian wishes to contact me feel free. We are at our home in Marco Island Florida. Upon returning to our summer home in Michigan I will look for some old ( now faded) color pictures of the Tiger.

Got one too

A Roots Roadster that is. When at the D.M.V. got a really strange look from the clerk. Since I was focused on escaping the back fees due to a no-op being filed, I let it slide.

Looking forward to seeing the photos-do you have the chassis number too?
Also curious about the Tiger you bought in SC-what year was it you bought it and do you remember the previous owner's name or the city where you bought it? I have lived in SC for a long time and have tracked most of the Tigers here-may know more about your car. thanks, Eric

I bought my second Tiger in Columbia SC. in about 1982. I still have all the issues of CAT that the previous owner collected as well as every piece that he ever replaced ie. clutch salves cylinder, tonneu cover etc. I will look up the last name when I return north as it alludes me now. His first name was Rick. His wife Maureen. He was an engineer as I recall. In typical engineering fashion he never threw away anything. A trait I have emulated and am thankful for. The Tiger is Green with a roll bar. He installed a seat belt in the back for when he and Maureen took their child out for rides. Does that information ring a bell?
