hardtop rear window trim

hardtops

Hi Steven, I hope that the individual parts don't become so pricey that people start to part them out, that would be shame.

There was a bunch of these on ebay Uk a while back.. 3 sets in the lot and sold for under 300 the bunch... in the Uk where the tops rust away heavily they have more "spares" as the clips, trims and latches survived when the steel didnt. I note one of the Uk suppliers has since listed a complete rear set i the last day on ebay USA.. its all supply and demand...

Tamer, post something to the 'parts wanted' section, you might get lucky.

As for the set that just sold for big $ I don't begrudge either the buyer or the seller, someone needed to finish a hardtop and just wanted to get the parts search journey over with.

there's another set on e bay now. current bid is 610.00. they went on sale yesterday.

Yikes is right

One could say that about the fiberglass air cleaner 560.00, the BON 2150.00
as well. A member had his version of the air cleaners at the last fix in and found light interest at 400.00 a set. Considering the footprints the tops make in the paint finish the cost and the overall why wear a rain coat to the beach, I wonder why I stalked and hunted one down. Must be Tiger related, O.C.D.

it makes me wonder if I should list a set on e bay. maybe I should strip my other tops and sell the parts.

Warren, I am in the same boat as you. I restored my top and placed it on the car--left marks in the paint...ugh. It makes a nice decorative piece in my garage now.

You can use the 3M clear automotive protective film on the rear where the hardtop sits to protect the paint. Cut it using the hardtop rubbers as a guide. It does a fair bit to stop the chaffing the rubbers do to the paint.

Clear bra

Yes that 3M product is a good help for sure. I am pretty far away from installing the glass that was custom laminated by Lee in the Valley.

I would speculate that lots of factors including how many paint jobs are on car, the heat of the car when placing the top on, the thickness of the B pillar, and other rubbers. It seems the squeeze down ability of the closed cell rubbers could also be a factor.

The car has a hefty X frame and the car was designed as a rag top. Having jacked up more than one convertible in my day I do not think I would not jack up from the front a Tiger with a top attached.

Randy or you all with more frame bending twisting and contorting exp. could weigh in on this body flexing.

Sorry to hear about your fresh paint Bruce, how was the 1000 dollar Rustpine?
