My engine is installed, but not yet started. Discovered the water pump is not original, so belt will not line up. Will order a new one from Rick. Also found that the oil dipstick is not original, too long. Ordered the correct one, but cannot get the old tube out. Afraid to push it too hard and crushing it. Could remove the timing cover, but would have to pull the balancer. How easy is that to do with the engine in the car? I have a smallish impact wrench, but not sure there is clearance to use it. Looks like they are a bit of a pain to remove. Thanks, David

Dipstick tube

What about cutting the tube to length with a compact tubing cutter, much easier than trying to remove the timing gear cover.

Tube removal

Dave,

If you have a slide hammer (dent puller) with a taper attachment, you screw that into the tube and pull it out that way.
As for the water pump, the one I got from the parts house had to have the collar moved towards the pump. (It's pressed onto the shaft) There is a reference to that in the Sunbeam Survivor manual.
