Harrington with a V8

Interesting they are callin git a LM.. this car has had a lot of air time over the years.. was built by a well known Uk sunbeamer.. based ona S3 alpine.. used a Tiger donor and also C/D series roof.

Car was featured in 2007 UK classic mag in a road test against a similarly modified TR5 with a Diove conversion (the continuation of harrington Co.)

There is also a Tiger doign the rounds which had early series wings grafted on a nd a Harrington roof.. is a blue metalic.

I actually really like this car... might not be an original tiger, harrington .. but what a GT.. all that toqrue and the bespoke fastback body... :)

V8

I've seen it in person and it is a nice conversion. the blue car was a tiger that was converted.

It does look nice. I guess that's a 3rd brake light in the scoop on top?

So how is the gas pedal foot space in a RHD vs. LHD?

I think the scoop on top was for ventilation.

Oh! I was guessing the retractable roof was a custom touch and so was the scoop. I can see the need for ventilation as it doesn't have the natural flow thru as the removable hard top does. Looks like the rear side windows have latches.

rear side windows have latches... as for RHD.. a RHD tiger has a LOT more leg room than LHD.... acellerator pedal is not jammed against the tunnel.

How can they claim the only one made when we know there was a "real" one made? I helped Bill VanVelkinburg restore his Harrington Tiger back in the late 80's when he showed it at Pebble Beach, now that was a beautiful car. He sold it at the Monterey auction in the early 2000's and I am not sure whatever happened to it after that.

harrington

the blue car is a real tiger. the owner had series 3 alpine fenders added and a real Harrington top added. that makes it the only one of it's type made. even if it was converted by the owner. bill's Harrington was not commissioned or built for rootes but was built by Harrington for a customer thus making it the only tiger chassis converted at the Harrington works. they're both original jenson tigers, just converted by two different shops.

ah ha. So does that mean there were 2 Harrington Tigers built? Or 1 Harrington and 1 Tiger hardtop?

Cool

All debate and history aside, I just think that they are a neat car . . . . . .Wouldn't mind having one to play with.

v8

peter Mathews also had another series D Harrington that he added a tiger drive line to. those of you that were at SUNI 1 should remember seeing both the blue car and the gold Harrington alger. the gold car is listed in the series D registry on the Harrington web site because it is a real harrington. there also is a photo of it. the UK tiger club is aware that the blue car is a real tiger with modifications made to the body. I spent an afternoon looking at bill's tiger converted by Harrington since my lemans and bill's tiger were shown side by side at the concourse at suni 2 in lake Geneva. I have to agree with randy that they would be neat cars to have. I mentioned to one old guy about converting my RHD lemans to either a V6 or doing an alger conversion . he reminded me that he is retired.

Seems like a good price for such a beautiful car, I was told the dash in my car is from a Harrington, anyone know what the differences would be? It looks like an Alpine dash to me as it has the opening for the choke.

The Harrington Alpine dashes were often the same as the stock SII dashes, The Harrington LeMans had a different dash.. it had a false wood evneer over it and also had a glove box door. they have a Harrington badge affixed to the glovebox door.. can you post a pic?

Harrington

I'll try and get a picture tomorrow as my car is in storage but I suspect it's an Alpine dash as it doesn't have the glove box door.

harrington

if it were a lemans dash it would have the ignition switch in the farthest hole to the right of the dash. it would only have lettering around the heater controls and the controls would have round chrome knobs on them. the wood grain is actually a formica veneer glued to the plastic dash. if your dash is a standard early series alpine it would have silver paint on it. if it's covered with black vinyl and has the same set up as a tiger it's may be a later alpine dash. if you want to see a lemans dash go to my photobucket and there is a photo of one of my lemans dash on the first page. http://s606.photobucket.com/albums/tt142/65beam/

Harrington

Nice photo album, I enjoyed looking through at all the tigers and Alpines. The Harrington dash doesn't look like mine so I suspect mine is just an aftermarket dash.
