Years of using a variety of available tools to remove the cap on the steering racks ended today. I was being nosey with our local Cobra fabricator's computerized plasma cutter and he showed me how to make a correct tool out of 1/4" steel plate. Fits purrrfect and the end is sized to slide into a 1" pipe for full leverage & torque. The downside is he is mailing the bill . . .:(

Very very nice:)

Certainly beats my pieces of key-way stock in the slots and a pipe wrench.

BTW, I bet a three eared tool like that would be a hit with the MG folks. The caps on the MG rack I have in my car (Dale's Conversion Adapters) have three equally spaced slots. Talk about struggling to get those off... :(

Sounds like something to burn out with my new plasma cutter when I get my rack removed...

All we need for info is the diameter of the cap, the depth and width of the notches, and Nick's computer does the rest while we have coffee . . :p. . .A photo of the end would help to familiarize and avoid errors. Ain't this new fangled stuff neat!

or just lasercut

Very cool idea,
Will get some lasercut for me, my rack seems ok but after sitting for 40 years... maybe i should check ist one time.

Randy, I have gotten through the my project of re-shiming the inner tie rod ends and rack rebuild so I myself am not a prospective customer for a MG rack specific tool. I do have a spare inner tie rod laying around so I could take some cap measurements if you would like the details for general info/future reference. If so let me know.:)
