After picking up another car (more on that later :) ) I decided it was a good time to revisit my classic car policy for the Tiger as well as the addition of the new car.

Any words of wisdom on the subject or preferred vendors? I currently have JC Taylor. The policy was a spin-off of an existing family policy so I never gave it much thought before. Never had a claim. I would say that my only unique consideration is that I drive the car quite a bit compared to most, at least around here-- often several times a week.

Try C.H.R.O.M.E. (Google it for a local agent). My Tiger is not on the road yet, but the agent insured my non-running Alpine (at $2500) for $6.00 per six months. (Six dollars). He also has my Cobra and 280SL. I carried J.C. Taylor for about 25 years and Chrome is much less expensive. Bill.

I have 5 cars through Barrett Jackson which is AIG--great coverage, quick response times and affordable rates.

AIG

Or should have been called I OU, after 22 years in the biz, It's not about rates alone.
Comparing , Tennessee to Torrance is quote different.
Get the policy look at exclusions big print giveth small print taketh away.
Most never see the small print till its too late.

Hagerty

I have Hagerty on my classic cars, currently a Tiger, 65 Mustang and 76 Cadillac. I had a Tiger, an Alpine, and a 1973 Cadillac burn up in the 2007 Witch Creek fire, and I was very happy with their service - about a 5 minute phone call to explain the situation, adjuster came the next day for a perfunctory visit (Yup, they burned up), and about a week after that I got a check in the mail for the stated value and they sent a tow truck to take away the wrecks. I wish the house insurance had been as good - that was more like several years of haggling and $.50 on the dollar... The only "interesting" part was that Hagerty insisted that I mail them the keys for the cars... I had to sift through the ashes of my office to find them, but they accepted the mangled mess.
A slightly humorous aside, my insurance had renewed about a month before the fire, I'd had the 1973 Cadillac Fleetwood listed at a value of $5,000. They included a note with my renewal to the effect that "our research shows that the value of that car is more like $8,000, for an extra couple bucks a year we'll increase the stated value". I took them up on that, and always say "in retrospect, that seems like a poor decision on their part!".

I also have Grundy. I'm happy with them.

insurance

we had four of our sunbeams set thru a flood back in the early 90's. we had our insurance with J C Taylor at the time. doug Jennings wrote the estimate to repair the cars, he faxed the estimates to them and they called him to go over the estimates. we had checks a few days later. we are with hagerty now and have seen them promptly pay off on claims for a couple local guys.
