I found this over on Club Cobra as it is a video taken during last years Monterey Historic races from one of the Cobras. If you wait until around 2:30 into the video John passes the camera Cobra.
It's a shame that the Sportscar Specialties Cobra broke a rocker arm as John was working his way thru the field. Amazing driving by John

Very nice video. I just noticed that Morton's Tiger (I know it's not his) has the brake lights on the top, is that just for racing?

In order to minimize the chance of losing the brake light on one side of the car, I wired all the bulbs to light up when John hits the brakes. I also installed a mechanical switch under the dash and deleted the stock hydraulically operated one. Not quite the way Sports Car Forum did it back in the day but it gets the job done.

Jim's in car Go Pro got some great footage of our Tiger. I remember the race in his video quite well. John started about tenth and got up to 5th before the shift knob came off! John pulled over to let Jim pass & then finished 6th. Between races lots of Lock-Tite were used when we re-installed the knob. (Hopefully we'll never see that problem again.)

Then in the main race John got up to 4th before the rocker arm broke and he retired. (We run a stock type ball rocker and flat tappets.) (I'm still worried about the rocker arms. Many competitors have switched to aftermarket arms that cost 1 to 3 thousand dollars per set - no kidding. And they run spray bars inside their valve covers. This is a step I'm resisting but many are urging me to take.)

Hard to believe we'll back at it there in only a month. I can't wait to see the Cobras run! An entire class of real Shelby Cobras with over 40 small block Fords roaring down the main straight. It should also be something to hear as well as see! I know a lot of you plan to attend. Bring your cameras! George Boskoff is even coming over from Hawaii to watch it. It should be quite a spectacle!

BTW, I think Bob has scheduled a CAT Membership Meeting in our pits on Sunday.

Of course I will miss another meeting. We'll be there friday and saturday, heading back north sunday am. Hopefully I will run into George in or near your pits on Saturday, I met him in the early 2000's but it would be nice to talk to him again.

That's a cool video:cool: John is more than competitive in the Sport's Car Forum Tiger. It's about time he got that promised ride in a Tiger- even if it is some 40+ years later!! Hope nothing breaks this year!

Buck..

What are the chances that you can mount a GOPRO camera on the Sports Car Forum tiger for the race ?? This is going to be something very special with
several Daytona coupes racing along with the hohum Cobra's....This maybe the last time this group of racers will get together and I would sure like to give the Badger a picture of a John beating up on his Coupes....

I usually run a camcorder on the Tiger when I think about it. However when we are putting out fires it's one of the first things to fall through the cracks.

I have not seen an entry list yet but I'd imagine the Daytona Coupes will run with the other Cobras in the special class for Cobras alone. This year the Cobras are not running with the Bp / Ap cars like they usually do. So we'll have two races of exceptional interest. Both race on Saturday after practices on Thursday and Friday mornings.
