Good morning all,

This is my first post to this forum. I have a had a 65 Tiger for 3 years now. Solid ex-California car which is in good driving condition. I am having the car largely disassembled before repainting it. Looking to add LAT hood and perhaps a new set of rims and tires. Anyone familiar with the one sold by E-BodyParts.com (aka Carhoods.com, USBodySource.com)? Looking also for a nice wheel/tire combo and driver's door emblem. Thanks in advance and happy holidays to all.

Welcome Andy,
I say that like I'm a seasoned guy, I'm not as far as this board goes. I am awaiting the response as I too would like to add a LAT hood in the future.
Not sure what you mean by drives door emblem? Unless you just meant driver side.
All the major suppliers carry the Rootes fender badge and Tiger/Alpine script.

Ken Wilcox (IIRC?) apparently makes very nice ones, as does Dale A, Jeff Haworth in the UK does nice ones (i have one but not fitted) and believe he had a USA distributor a little while back.

We've worked with a few LAT style bonnets both metal and glass. Jeff Howarth supplied a few in glass and we noted minimum rework & fitting needs. As for wheels & tyres, pay attention to turning and offset clearance in the wells. By reading back thru these forum postings, you should find more info on the subject to keep you confused . . . . .welcome and enjoy.

I suggest that "buyer beware" is more than appropriate for a LAT hood.

Perhaps a money back guarantee including the cost of postage is appropriate.

Mine fits "ok" although described before purchase as better, and has some waves although sold by a "reputable" vendor.

At various shows and meetings I've heard some real sad tales from others.

An additional but small irritation to ask about is hood latch holes drilled for metric bolts.

Kent Wilcox

Kent Wilcox made beautiful hoods, I bought one from him 10 to 15 years ago, his shop is very close to me. I tried to get one a year or so ago and he told me he didn't have time to make them and didn't want to make them anymore, something along the lines of "more trouble than it's worth".
I saw one of Dale's hoods at his shop earlier this year, and it looks as good, or better, than Kent's work, I'll buy one of his when I get ready to put one on my restored car.
I have an original LAT hood on my unrestored Tiger, it really doesn't fit that well, the curve both at the fender line and the cowl is insufficient.

I have a question about the LAT hood for guys who've had one for a long time, my Tiger I drove as a daily driver had a stock hood. What happens when you get into a driving rain storm? It seems to me that the amount of water that would come in the hood scoop would cause problems with the distributor/plug wires as well as possibly waterlogging the air cleaner?

Yup, things get damp. Never had it stop or skip on me, but it did steam a bit. Same thing happens with the 66 Fastback Stang. That barn door front grill lets it all in thru the radiator & makes a soggy mess.
