LOST 'N FOUND

I have a similar set in my garage---how can I tell which car they came off of? They are the Rootes ones too.

Maybe it's because your original valve cover is with a guy up in Canada

NICE! Can I get it back?

Do I have his?

We might just be able to retrieve your valve cover. The Canadian needs help in other areas of vehicle verification, so stand by.

The valve cover you have comes from an early MK I that is so far "unclaimed" in my records.

confused

I am confused. Are the first four numbers in the engine number the ones that make it car specific? I thought all Tigers have the same model no. and s.o. no. The 5 alpha numeric in the engine refers to the batch of motors, so is it the first 4 that are car specific? also how many different "batches" did Ford send Sunbeam?

The engine number is also on the VIN plate. Valve cover sticker and VIN plate should match. I have had a repro VC plate made that matches the VIN, I would like to have the original VC to hang on the wall.

I may be missing something really obvious here but how have all these valve covers ended up on different cars and different countries for that matter.

Beats the hell out of me. Maybe same shop at same time with VCs off of both....then got mixed up like babies at the hospital. Who knows.

Think about how many tigers have their original engines.. not that many..so i'd say many owners lost them when they upgraded to 289s, 302's etc.. then there are all the cars that switched to the alloy rocker covers, be they shelby, LAT or other aftermarket.. do they keep the original covers.. probably just gave them away or sold them... its the same as the air filter housings.. people didnt seem to put them on a shelf.. they seemed to throw them out.. with the valve covers they were either sold off with the motor or used on other motors..

What surprises me now.. is how many are showing up on ebay in the last 2-3 years... at least they have survived

When I purchased my current Tiger in the late 80's it had 'Cobra' valve covers fitted to it. I found some really nice blacked-out finned Tiger valve covers at a Tiger swap meet about 20 years ago. They're still on the car.

A few years ago, I got curious as to the whereabouts of the original valve covers for this car. After some sleuthing around, I found them in Dennis Mancini's garage! He was gracious enough to part with them, and they are now hanging in my garage. They're pretty rough, but both stickers are still (mostly) there. Gives me a warm fuzzy every time I look at them:)
