LROFE in Texas

Be your own judge. I remember this I think was the discussion before our affiliated friends sent these pics on. Pictures tell a 1000 words but also seem to ask a 1000 questions.
I was looking at a few old ebay ads that a friend sent and... Would you beleive..?. this car was sold a few years ago with quotes from the ad copy...

"CAR HAS NO TITLE AND IS BEING SOLD AS PARTS CAR"

and a few more rusty pics... pm me for the whole ad if interested...

Good service to the community

In all the car looks every bit to be a Tiger what it is not is a rust free car and that's the festering sore of a problem, not his spelling. You do not need to resort to ad hominen attacks but it's just fun some times:cool:

I sent him a PM thru eBay system as I do many. "Your vehicle is a topic of discussion on a Major Tiger club website please go have a look."

He got and additional, semi friendly .02 cents that it was not so wise to reference Tiger registry in ad copy as most can now go there and see the car in Ohio in 2008, not Texas. eBay has gotten their $75 U.S. plus the reserve fee 2X now that's all eBay cares about.

eBay is the for the better part a thief's market and they have recently decreed that Paypal will extend the dispute time to 180 days for nearly any reason. So sell a part and possibly get a charge back up to 6 months later total BS

How true ! Here's part of an old ad for the same car...
"THIS CAR WAS FOUND IN A OLD WAREHOUSE IN CLEVELAND AND IS BEING SOLD FOR THE OWNER."

...and this...

"BODY:
• Hoods good
• Front fenders(bottom rusted and rot)
• Doors good
• Rear quarters(bottom rusted and rot)
• Trunk(rust holes)
• Floor pans(rust and holes in front where feet go)
• Right side rocker panel(gone)"

Not sure where the 'Texas' reference comes from ...
I wonder how I'd list my car in a sale ad... it was in Santa Clara area until sometime in the '80's.. and then Socal 'til 1990... then Missouri for 2 months.. and then TEXAS for 17 years.. and now Canada for 7... what do I pick... Missouri car ?:D

Texas

Hey, it's probably "from Texas" just like I "went to Julliard". I went there... once. Not sure why they'd even bother to put that in, I've seen plenty of super rusty cars in Texas. If you're going to fib to bolster your rust free story, pick somewhere like So Cal or Arizona! Of course, maybe it never had visited So Cal, so it couldn't technically truthfully be "from" there.

Good one Duke ! This car is a fake without any doubt. Fooling with the JAL so obviously even underlines that...

Pics

I have seen 15 or so pics of the car and they look very Tiger specific. That said the 3 TAC guys may some day pass or fail this car.

No response from my email.

There has been Alpine ID numbers on a TAC'ed car on eBay, so a home brew JAL tag is a minor hiccup when you look at all the pics and the trail of rust particles and bits n bytes that follow this below average collection of parts.

A home brew JAL tag means he tried to achieve something. Why he just didn't leave it away as on the original car? Anyway the TAC's may find out the reality later...

there have been real tigers with fake and mismacthed JAL/VIN... the issue with this car is that they have tried to preserve the riverts... I can sort of understand that if you wanted to acid dip the body and want to keep original look... the JAL they may have made up as they thought it needed one or people would ask questions (irony!!)

I'm not judging the car as fake or rebody.... I am not questioning the car being rust free NOW.....

What we are all worried about is the fact the cars was in a decenent state of decay... obviously in a non dry climbate and the seller is being misleading about that and implying a rust free history

I would buy this tiger

I was interested in the tiger , but with all that is said on this site !!!! wowww not sur !!!!
I even contact the seller via email , and i asked him for more pictures of engine bay ,

* The working of this tool involved attachment through the inner fender metal and in the wake of its removal, Jensen fitted two, rubber hole plugs to disguise traces of its utilization.*

is there other one difference between a tiger and a alpine?

My very origional mk 1 has the same holes in the right inner fender where the brake lines pass through. Cannot show images at the moment as its at a body shop. My 2c worth

Oh my! That is more interesting than my vin tag photos. Really cleaned up that fender of the extra crap like that pesky water bottle bracket. Much more streamlined that way. Lee

More importantly, where did the spade shaped depression go?

The windshield washer bottle bracket should be present on an Alpine as well. It was the brake booster mount on an Alpine.

The evidence on this car points solidly to Alger. This started life as a real Tiger and received an Alpine body swap. I'd be unwilling to part with a dime until 3 TAC inspectors rendered a thumbs up verdict. All of this in my humble opinion.

Well, someone is getting #u#k#d for $30K. The selling price. The seller should be arrested as he knew very well it was a fake.

And yes, my daily reports to ebay did nothing.

The winner bidder has this bid history -

eBay Motors > Other Makes
eBay Motors > Chevrolet
eBay Motors > Jaguar
eBay Motors > Lincoln
eBay Motors > Pontiac
eBay Motors > Jaguar
eBay Motors > Other Makes
eBay Motors > Manuals & Literature

You will see this car again as a car flipper bought it.

The light bulb came on in my head.

TAC officials, they are not supposed to discuss what make a Tiger in public. So this is why you may see riddle like responses.

Other guys are too harsh you can't tell from the pics, and I have seen over 30 pics from this cars day's in Ohio maybe Texas. Guilty until proven innocent is not fair. I DO NOT think the car is represented truthfully, big trouble. I would not get out of bed and drive to see it with the knowledge of where she's been and how she's held together. What has happened since the pics from a eBay auction in Ohio is unclear. It looks to be a Tiger THEN, that is why the word TROUBLE has been used.
Never mind the home brew JAL tag as the car would drive and TAC the same with or without it. At the asking price with the current info it's a RISKY deal as it it can't pass TAC it's a sub 20,000 look alike.

We can't give you the advice you seek, it's complicated and for good reason.

Oh, PS hate to send you to look at Facebook UK Tiger site but the car gets kicked around there too,

you guys need to get off the west coast and make your way to the TE/AE united in july. you'll get to meet some of the Canadians from Quebec. I know of some that spoke only French when they attended their first united many years ago. you're just too used to Spanish or is that Mexican ? several of these Canadians speak fairly good English years later so why make remarks about their broken English. Shame on you!
