All four wheels on the Tig are getting chewed up buy the lug nuts. It appears they are all too small in outside diameter. Seems odd that all sixteen would be this size. Opinions please.

Has someone in the past "done the car wrong"?

Thanks,
Mike

Mike,

Are you reffering to the steel wheels getting chewed up or after market alloys? If its alloys maybe they have slotted or larger holes. If original steel wheels i have seen ones that had not had the nuts on tight enough and it stretches the holes.

Michael,
these are the stock factory steel wheels. When the lugs nuts are tightened they don't seat nicely against the wheel angle at the hole. They just kind of dig in. Just seems odd.

Ignore the spacer you see behind the wheel. I didn't do it and they have been removed.

Are you sure you have stock lug nuts? The stock nuts have a different conical taper than standard US 7/16-20 nuts. The American ones typically have a 60 degree conical taper. The English OEM ones have a much flatter taper. The wheel has a correspondingly flatter seat. Putting a US nut on the OEM wheel, the sharper nut angle on the nut would dig into the wheel seat rather than meshing flat into its contour.
