Luggage Rack

My Tiger, that I just purchased, came with what appears to be an Amco style luggage rack. I would more than likely never purchase a luggage rack if my car didn't already sport one. I'm about ready to have my car re-sprayed the original "Midnight Blue" and my question is should I keep the rack or have shop weld the holes over before painting. I honestly can't make up my mind on this. Its really a coin toss for me. If you guys were in the same position what would you do? Lose the rack or keep it.

Last week

I saw a period SC Porsche 356 coupe with rack and period correct bike addition .
Sweet. It can be really nice with period luggage as well.
Maybe get 2 boot lids they seem cheap enough.


I'd hate to have to clean the rack and underneath, call me lazy and too poor to have a personal car valet....

A rack could be a potential leak in the boot (spelled PITA) source. Fill the holes. You can always put the rack on again later if you find a need for it or if you have room a 2nd lid, as Warren suggests, is an idea.
 
Thanks for the responses guys. I'm leaning towards losing the rack. Got about a month before I have to make up my mind though.

And the piece of luggage in the picture below as well...

So, it would be cool to re-enact...

In the end, the cuts out of the lid were very poorly done, and with new paint I couldn't see keeping those. The holes were welded, smoothed and look as if no rack was mounted.

But, I'd have had no issue having a rack, with smoke screen coming from attached luggage... switched on in front of Duke, so he's surrounded by smoke from the front and rear tires. ;-)

We've been in KS for seven years thus far and it looks like two more. Really like the area.

:D Too funny!! You guys all have beautiful Tigers(with and without luggage racks) . I'll get mine there eventually. Actually, when the shop tells me how much extra its going to be to weld up the rack holes I may suddenly decide I really like that luggage rack.:D
 
Period correct

I wouldn't park my MK1a next to that Chrysler if it was the last spot at a Mopar show.

You have the final say in this option. Will the car be totally stock? Modified? The car would stand out from all the others if you have the rack. I have been to shows whether it's Porsches or VW's and when they have the rack with period luggage it sure draws a crowd. Either way do what floats your boat.........:)

I keep thinking that K car looks like the one Steve Martin and John Candy were in and burned up in the movie "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles".
 
Warren--Clark and the family had the family truckster--that huge woodie wagon with 8 headlights. Remember they had dead grandma wrapped up on the roof rack.... :)
