YEP! That's the movie that pic is from. We watch it every Thanksgiving. " where are your hands....between two pillows....those aren't PILLOWS!"I keep thinking that K car looks like the one Steve Martin and John Candy were in and burned up in the movie "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles".
Take off the rack, cut it up, and use the tubing to make a torque arm.
Bruce is right, a nice rack always draws attn.

If it is originality you seek, see the link below for a photo/description of the rack that was available as a dealer accessory (second page). It sounds as if the rack from Sunbeam was attached/removed rather easily (no holes I would guess.) The one currently in place sounds more aftermarket. I vote for ditching it.

Nope, my luggage rack does not resemble that one in any way. Here is a photo of my car with the luggage rack.
The optional factoryvrack had 4 suction capscand a series of metal tethers with metal clips that go around the trunk lid so it was removed without leaving holes
From that angle and with the hardtop on she sure is a beauty (I'm sure from any angle she'd look just as nice though).
Now that I've seen what you have I'm going to waffle and turn 180 and say keep the rack. With the hardtop removed though it does affect the sleekness of the car.
