market test valve stem tool

A couple of the tool set parts are difficult to find and usually missing from the kits. I am doing a market test on the valve stem tool on ebay and wonder if there is a demand for this and a lucas spark plug tool correctly reproduced with the correct aluminum rivet. Started the auction at .99 just to test the market a bit.

Also looking at the overflow tanks and maybe mk2 headlight rings although they may be in the works and I don't plan to compete with anyone else. Lee

The overflow tank that Dale sells is actually a Ron Davis item... Very nice but far from an exact repro!! My buddy bought one for his 'restomod' Tiger and it looks good but he got it direct and I think it was about $450!! Dale sells it for $350...
Dale also sells another tank... half the price but I believe it had 'flat' ends on it. There used to be a pic link on his site but not anymore...

There were several air cleaner alternatives when we decided to reproduce them. Nobody had made the investment to serve the demand for an accurate reproduction. Dales tank meets the demand for the modified guys just like our Texas friend made a beautiful aluminum air cleaner alternative. Lee

Tanks are being done in UK or at least under development. Issues also are slight variations in the original ... 3 iirc .

If you're looking for a really unobtanium part to recreate for the 'stock' concours crowd...

how about a vented battery cap manifold ??;)

Another Idea

Lee

How about an accurate reproduction of the criss-cross style wheel trim rings. I have posted WTB threads twice for a set of originals over the past few years and did not get a single offer.

Might not have enough demand since everybody has after-market alloy wheels. I do too, but it would be nice to have a nice set of accurate repros rather than old chewed up originals when you need/want that original look..

Just sayin'...

I have been asking for Mk2 headlight rings for some time now--love the look of those.

Sunbeam Spares , the balance of the UK guys, Lee, Bruce and I. Plus all the guys in the Marketplace . There is no expansion tank repop available . These products were never a get rich quick scheme by any wild stretch of the imagination . The AC housing was able to be done because I think the main appeal was , an appeal to pity of sorts for the club members Sunbeam having to pay 1800 for a air cleaner .

All that said we are more together then we are apart . Sell your hoarded Sunbeam spares while the gettin is good.

What is really needed is all the MK2 guys to get together to build their sacred wheel arch trims and eyebrow finisher . Sure I'd like to have a set of reproduction wheel trims on my black car , as it is rather reminiscent of my favorite old car by BMW 3.0 CSI .
Except its wheel arch trims were made after market , to mock the CSL.

Another reason to get more involved with the club even if you're far away .

you guys aren't thinking right. owners will still pay high prices for original pieces over reproductions. at least that seems to be the norm. especially anything tiger, including the cars.

there was a run of the MK 2 rims several years ago. they were fiber glass.

Housings and Rings

This is not a thread about what guys will pay on eBay for a original part or a reproduction part. Fiberglass air cleaners have been out for many years, and the same with SV or MK2 headlight rings. Chuck Daly a 30 year member of the club has 2 69024 stamped chromed AC housings that had the chance to be sold on eBay before the introduction of the repop ones. I mentioned it to him some 2 years ago and he sold off almost all of his stuff, but forgot to sell the AC housings DOH. Now we know that chromed LAT real AC housings have had a different number stamped in them. If anyone's car gets dinged points feel free to kick me in the shins, I can take it. Life has it's unintended outcomes. But the good new is now you all know a high dollar Tiger restorer nugget.

Chuck also had a late Smiths heater valve in the original box, and yes there was a difference between the ones Sunbeam Spares sells and the original one, easily identified by a part number and the superior plating and finishes as I recall. Could I see it bending over a fender, NO not without reading glasses. Would I put it on a my car NO, do I hope that next gen repops get closer YES. I have seen but a couple survivor cars worthy of such a NOS part. For the rest of us the better we work as a team the better the group will be. If that is not thinking straight by getting real quality spares made so be it.

The last AC original housing sold on eBay went for $760 it was pitted and rusty. The nefarious type could go get some table salt a little mild acid and distress a new one to match the patina in a few days, or weeks
alas another unintended outcome.

This TOOL in question is a Schrader valve removal tool. My banana skin bias belted tire back in the dark ages were tubeless. I can't imagine a use, unless for a teenage prank and the rapid deflation of several tires. Well on 2nd thought a bike tire or two had a leaky valve and I was able to loosen and re tighten a couple of them.
It does not even make a good ear wax removal tool, I like the cute little key with the .016 feeler gauge:D

Personally I will never be in stock class and the 2nd worse trunk of all the cars I've owned will be stuffed with real tools n spares. If I had a tool kit it would be next to my Hazet tourist set for the VW collecting dust.

I thought the valve tool was listed on e bay to see what buyers would pay for it. do some research and see what other cars of the era used the same tool. it's not a tiger specific part. I buy them from other suppliers when I'm at swap meets on the east coast. you may reproduce something that there are already sources for.

Well, that ends that market test!

Brass ones are also being reproduced for the earlier cars. I bought one for me Series III GT from the UK.

MK DeuX Rims

I'm with Bruce. I'd love to have a set. Repop would suit me just fine!
Cheers! -Kevin

Composite MK II headlight rims from the barn loft. Purchased from a Florida restoration shop. He did not indicate where they came from.

If selling, I'm interested in a set for my Series III GT. Have always like the cleaner look, (Jay Laifman's car) but not willing to buy them like I own a MKII. :)

Cigar lighter

Seen the Jag ones for sale lately? How about an early mirror?

This is the look I am after...

...So unfortunately composite units won't work :(

I'm not in a rush so hopefully I can find some decent rings or wait for a repop unit to hit the market.

Cheers, -Kevin
