Next year, 2014, is the 50th Anniversary of the introduction of the Tiger.

There is a possibility that this might be acknowledged with a special Tiger car corral during the Rolex Reunion races in mid-August at the Laguna Seca Raceway. There may be other Tiger related activities there as well.

It would be helpful if we had a rough idea of how many Tigers would want to use a corral so if you are interested please either respond here give me a call or pm.

PM'd one 'yes'

and we'll see how close I get. Either way, I'd pay and plan to come down for a large gathering of y'all.

Thanks,

I'm going this year, I plan to spend a couple more days there this time so it won't seem so rushed.

I also think it would be great if the powers that be up there do something to acknowledge the Tiger 50th, it would be a nice break from all the usual stuff and it would be a good draw.

One thing I learned the first time I attended is that you have to make hotel reservations asap. Some of the most sought after hotels have contracts with the regular racegoers so those rooms are automatically blocked out a year in advance. Then sometime after Jan 1 they release the rest of the rooms and take reservations.

I also saw that some hotels quadruple their rates during the week of the race while others have a way more modest bump, it's worth spending some time trying to figure it out.

Things are already starting to come together for Tigers for next year's Monterey auto week and our celebration of the Tiger's 50th.

We got word from the organizers of the Rolex Reunion that the Tigers will have a car corral. Our parking will be in the dry lake bed which is about the best location available. The cost will be $25 for the entire weekend. Ticket orders will be place "on line". We'll have details later.

Moondoggie will again be hosting a Tiger lunch at the Baja Cantina in Carmel. Last year's event had a turnout of a dozen Tigers taking advantage of the special "Tiger Only" parking on the grass. I hope to see three times as many there next August. The walls of the Cantina are covered with race memorabilia. It really is "the" lunch place for car guys and it was pretty amazing this year when we simply walked past the line of 20 people waiting to be seated because Moondoggie had reserved a private "Tiger Only" room.

Again, it would help if any who might be interested in attending contact me so we can get a rough idea of the number we should plan for. And as Bob pointed our earlier, if you think you might go, get motel reservations now.

Hope to you and your Tiger next August,

thanks,

Sounds like it is coming together nicely--can't wait. I see Maserati was announced as the featured marque at the Rolex Monterey Motorsport Reunion August 14-17, 2014. Let's see if we can get more Tigers than Maserati's. :)

The Monterey Rolex Reunion will be held August 14-17, 2014.

The Tigers will be on the Laguna Seca track to qualify on Thursday and Friday and then usually race twice on Saturday.

Moondoggie's lunch at the Baja Cantina will be held again on Thursday this coming year. It's a very nice event.

BTW the pre Reunion races will be the weekend before, August 9 & 10.

Same questions plus

As it is after the possible trip to Suni for me it would be good to think about a ride share hotel share situation for me. Can't say if I'd take Tiger as I am a little concerned about taking a sandwich to a banquet, I mean driver to a concours.

We usually start to look for hotels right about now---and we usually get one about 30 miles away too. :(

On a dime... CAMP... reserve NOW!

Look guys, I've just booked sites in/around Monterey for the week.

http://www.reserveamerica.com

Sunset/Manresa SB are next to dunes and 20m N of Monterey.
Big Sur SP is 25m S.

My family and I will be New Brighton start of week (farther N, near Santa Cruz, but then have Sunset end of week, with trailer access (just in case).

It ain't cheap for camping anymore $40+/nt...but much cheaper than hotel.

Not the most luxurious of ideas, but rather spend the $ saved on tickets and memorabilia (if that is what beer is called now).

Seriously, the online reservations just opened and you can CANCEL if something comes up, like your invite to stay at Pebble.

Either way, I'll be seeing you one way or another.

Thanks for the info....we usually stay in Gilroy due to high hotel costs (or we're cheap) but actually found a nice hotel in Seaside for around the same price ( 140/nite) so we're staying closer this year. This is my 21st year going...1st with the Tiger. Hope to see some fellow CAT members there.

Car Corral - Sunbeam Tigers Only

Here is the flyer for the Sunbeam Tiger car corral at the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion.

salinas

There are still a few rooms in the really inexpensive hotels ($115 a night at Motel 6) in Salinas.

Best of all most are within walking distance of the In-N-Out.

A word of caution about Salinas...

I have lived here in Carmel for 12 years and I do not venture into Salinas
after dark. There is significant Mexican gang activity in the city. I would not bring a Tiger and park it outside at any motel or hotel in the city.
The reason motels and hotels are expensive here is they are safe and worth 1-2 times the cost. Look at Seaside, Sand City, Watsonville i or Santa Cruz even Gilroy

Not a Chebbie

I hear what you are saying. I'd go wherever and worry anyway. I'd like to go with several guys and stand a watch. Sunbeams make a poor lowrider.
I like the idea of safety in numbers, and am not brave enough to it alone.

salinas

Hi Moondoggie, I stay there every year, the parking lots are loaded with nice cars.

I just use my crappy car cover.

Bob J.

I think this year will be a bit different than prior years with the drought... Salinas
is a farm community and there could be very high unemployment due to
water shortages and gang activity will be very high. Just something to think about. I hope to see you at the Baja Cantina on thursday

Hi Bill, that's a good idea, I have heard that your Thursday Baja dinner is fun,

I'll try to be there this year. Make sure you post details as the date gets closer.

Bob J.

I go every year with a good friend and he has to work Thursday (sheesh those working guys) so we are not arriving until Friday. We'll be in Carmel Friday night for their cruise--some awesome cars. Saturday at the track and that night at Russo and Steele auction.
