We are checking into some more parts to help meet the need for hard to find parts.

I even tried to convince our new Overhaulin friend that was at the fix-in that his car would look even better with the original air cleaner (no luck) so the Cal Custom will remain on his car.

Here are my thoughts on these parts.

Expansion tank: Seems difficult to reproduce, multiple parts and assembly. eBay prices, most recent $400. Unsure of the demand over 100 units which is a low production high cost proposal. Also, three different tanks so which one do we do.

MK2 headlight bezels: eBay or estimated value of used are $400+per set. Many late Alpine guys would buy these to make their cars correct again if they were priced correctly.

Fan Shroud: Several close reproductions available but not exact $800. These are not often offered on eBay estimate $400-$800 on eBay.

Please let us know what you think, Lee.

For those that want to build a display engine or completely stock restoration: a complete set of the proper hose clamps. There are at least 12 and four different types.

Got some

Update pics of your favorite new dust collector Duke

I called you from the swap meet at there were wire hose clamps galore and the temp sending block you mentioned.

The Foose Tiger would have supplied all your needs Duke, well maybe not the oil filter as it was not present. You should pick up your cell phone.

As a partner you know my vote--headlight rings first, tank second and shroud third. We could look over the LAT option list and pick out a rarity there too. :)

Mk 1a/ Series V heater water control valve that does not start leaking after 3 months.

trim pieces

MKII Wheel well + rocker trim pieces would be nice. I have a full set for my car but it would be nice to have a back-up and feel like I am not driving around with Fort Knox on my wheel wells. Also, my rocker trims pieces have some minor damage right where the knurl pattern exist making it difficult to repair.

Floors & X-Arms

We would be happy to give up the floors and cruciform arms business. The old panel Guru is tired of them.

We cant do the mk2 trim. Not enough demand for the investment, sorry. Lee

Even if you sold them for 1/4 of the price they are currently selling for, I cannot imagine it would take many sets to recoup your investment. What would the production cost be? Are we talking in excess of 20k to produce the press molds??? I have no idea the cost of producing these items. Thanks for the consideration.

I would imagine the wheel arch trims are not to hard... the sill trim would be more problematic.... the hatching pattern, mold/stamp... and getting them 100% right.

and also who is willing to give up a set of the trim for us to send it off to the manufacturer for them to make a mold or stamp? That's probably harder than making the pieces.

If you find a small niche manufacturer who can and will actually duplicate the stainless moldings, I have a donor who will contribute both samples and some investment for a modest return.

reproduction parts

There's about 350 mkll's left , I'm sure we all would like some "insurance" in having the availability of extra parts like a mkll grill surround, rocker trim wheel arch molding and headlight rings. If your missing one of these pieces or is damaged the value of the car is comprimised. Lots of owners would jump at the chance of acquiring new parts for there car to make them whole again or as "insurance". I would be interested in all that I have mentioned hear. Just make it for sale by buying four wheel arches, or two rocker moldings, sell as a set. You will make money. Even Alpine and Mkl owners I have seen over the years dress there cars up using this trim.

Contact

I have had a conversation with some of you guys. I mentioned that the only way that the AC housing was able to move on was the spreading of the load.

So the problem is how many MK2s are really out there and how many will get on board. Some way must be devised to get a list of limited partners. That is increasingly difficult as the value soars on the cars most want some level of privacy. Sure CAT rosters are optional to be listed in but there is no details or requirement that a Tiger be owned.

Getting contact info and then a donor model part is a big ask, for sure the biggest.

Do not take Lee's no as a final answer of the topic. Get together a list of players and a loaner part(s)

Now back to the to do list.

It would be nice to see pic's of the expansion tank on a early un restored and un molested car plus a cross over car.

Most cars out there are a "nice collection of parts ," which is NOT a bad term but just descriptive of real world cars.

I have a set of NOS - never mounted - wheel arch trim that I would lend out for the pattern.
I would need them back when they are needed to fit to the car being restored (probably 1 to 1 1/2 years out as I am just starting to take the car apart now).

Thanks for the offer--I will talk to the "partners" and see what sounds good. Headlight rings and expansion tank are on the table right now, I think some MkII trim products could be viable if there is enough interest as we need to make enough to recoup our cost.
Warren--I don't think the cars are worth so much that we need anonymity. Heck--a fully loaded Porsche or Benz is worth as much or more than our little cars. haha

Line

I walk a fuzzy line here you do not Bruce. Lee posted my name to something then asked me later. I edited that away because I have some low level moderator authority, and he told me if I don't like it to edit it. This thread is on the edge of advertising for a product. I do not care for the whole idea of end running about the rules as we have already performed market studies and the thread is a gin up of the base, that if asked I would have said we do not need to do. If it was up to me I'd close it now as we already know what Lee decided to ask.

As for anonymity, I'm not sure what you are talking about. Most everyone knows we are the 3 musketeers on the AC housings.

I have another opportunity to act as a director for another year. I hope help President and President elect Mike M. and V.P. Buck T. in their visions for the club and suggest my ideas for ways to improve forum and make it better for in area and out of area members alike.

Forum regs about marketing ploys are what they are, BUT, for my 2-cents, any endeavor that makes quality parts available is OK by me . . . . .
