NASA & SCCA Road Race Tech Inspections

This is primarily meant for Duke but I would be interested in what others have to say on the topic.

A couple of years ago, before I pulled my motor, I was looking to run my Tiger in a PDX event put on by the SCCA Chicago Region. In reading the relevant tech rules I came upon two potential problems.

As I recall the rules incorporated by reference a lot of the rules for first level TT events. I also noticed separately that NASA piggy backed SCCA rules for their similar events, at least at that time.

One potential problem I noticed was that Monza quick fill flip door fuel fillers were prohibited. Given the close similarities of the Tiger's fuel filler lid, I made some inquiries and got a lot of frowns about whether it would pass or not.

There was also a potential issue with the hinged stock seats (at front).

I can only imagine the rules for a true road race event would be at least as strict.

Duke, all this experience is a couple of years old. But I just thought it responsible to mention it to you in case it is at all relevant to you and your May road race plans. I would hate to see you blindsided in the inspection lane. I do not think you can avoid personally confirming it other that at the actual inspection. But maybe there is something you can do to preempt a problem, if it might otherwise arise. Or maybe you have already addressed stuff like this, which would be great. If so, I for one would greatly appreciate hearing about it.

I would also be interested to know if anyone else has encountered these problems and if so how they successfully addressed them.

NASA AND SCCA RULES

NASA HAS VARIOUS LEVELS OF PARTICIPATION. Touring is not racing. Alan ran his MK I Tiger in Autocross trim at Hallet and Heartland in Touring class.
