It is all Warren's fault but I just got some YOM black and gold plates for my Tiger. License was the cool part TIG 950. Lee

Now I just have to get it back on the road...........

Looking good...You need to move pretty fast with the DMV considering the
new bill that Brown signed this week. If you don't have registration stickers
for the plates you need to move fast as the AG is shutting those guys down
and you will need @ 65 for a 1965 registration and a 65 & 66 for a 1966 registration. I bought my tags from Frank Whittle @ open-cut@sbcglobal.net
and the price was competitive. I just did this chinese fire drill with the DMV
so if you need some pointers just PM me and GOOD LUCK

first letter T is proper for 1967 only

The DMV is more concerned about whether the plates are out of circulation
and they do not check the letter sequence to see if it falls into the application
year. They do check to make sure the plates are not truck plates....

first letter T is proper for 1967 only

George, I find that curious information. I bought my car new in October 1967 from California Sports Cars in Santa Ana. When I went and picked up my new plates and a blue tag from the dealer, the plate number was HBN 810. Also, there was no 1966 sticker involved. Any idea how that could have happened?

My appointment is next Friday. I agree that the t starting letter will not be a factor. I may not have moved forward unless I found this license number. They would probably be most appropriate on 1967 car #950 but I will never own that car and I don't think there were that many 67s. Lee

proper plates

the d.m.v. does not care the plate says long as there d.m.v. cleared proper means car bought new in california in 1965 plate starts with R 1966 starts with S 1967 starts with T (only exception registration expires september or later may be titled the next year so a late 1967 may have a U witch is proper for 1968 the letter V is proper for 1969 last year for black&yellow plates

I was the 2nd owner of my first Tiger...bought it in late 69- the license plate that was on the car when I purchased it started with a V.

My first Tiger, a 1965 started with a "R" REG if I recall. I am sure it still has that original plate. Lee

V in '67?

When I bought my car in August 1970, the seller told me that he was the second owner. The California title indicated that it was a 1968 model, first sold new in 1967. BON lists the factory date as being 30 December 1966. The car had V as the first letter in the license plates, which are still on the car. I wonder if the car was originally sold somewhere other than California and then brought into the state in 1969, to wind up with a license plate with V as the first letter.

more on plates

the letter secquence only applies to new cars. When you go to the d.m.v. for replacement plates you get whatever is next on the stack of plates (any letter from a thru z) you could get lucky and get proper first letter for the year of your car but chances are slim

I forgot to mention my first Tiger was a '67 MK IA...it appears that the letter 'V' made an earlier appearance than 68' or'69.

plates

if bought new in california all cars 1967 plate starts with T (september thru december may start with U witch is 1968 letter) As you can buy a new 2013 today

It's not much of a stretch to picture a scenario where a late '67 MKIA was not sold until sometime in '68 when 'V' plates had started.

Umm

I think that the reason and logic behind what number went with what year is beyond the scope of any reasoning. As a plate could have been replaced.

I have a 64 that is a O and had a 63 that was a Q in the starting letter. There has been always out numerical sequence in the handing out of different plates.

What is important her is Lee's seller guaranteed that the plates would clear DMV and the same goes for the mfg of the proper required year sticker.
Tonight I saw a car with a sticker from a vendor who uses the same sticker number on every year he makes.

Me I was lucky and got my plate which had a 1966 sticker at the bottom of the stack stuck on the plate.

Also what is important is that anyone wanting to go with a Ca. YOM plate better move fast.

Obvious Q

Being from a less populated area where the entire family tree can be nailed with one birthday card, what happens when they run out of alphabet?

easy to remember secquence

P=1963,Q=1964,R=1965,S=1966,T=1967,U=1968,V=1969 (Warren ask your mustang friends got my info. over 25 years ago from owner of mustang country he sold business & moved to Australia)

alphabet question

almost impossible to run out of alphabet with 26 letters & 10 numbers (but who knows maybe thats why they went to 7 didget plates now)
