Nice Alger MKII B382100442

35 bucks

The last pic in that link is a CAT and Shelby sticker. The irony.....

For a CAT sticker and we'll send you one :) , probably one of the worst cobbled vin tags I've seen why bother with all those extra numbers

I like stories like this too bad we don't have more details. We have seen some countries put their own tags on cars if they were not happy with the fact there is no immovable secondary vin in the Netherlands. Thumbs down on Austria.

Let's Not Blame the Country

We don't know if Austria is party to this sham. Tigers are not very common on the continent. If some a**hole in another country has title to one car and fabricates that VIN number and puts it on another car and ships the car to Austria, how does the Austrian motor vehicle officials know that the paper title does NOT belong to the car with an illegal VIN plate attached? And the person does not even have to do the VIN number switch in one country and ship to another. They can switch VIN plates on an Alpine in any country and pass it off as a Tiger as long as they held a title for the Tiger and they don't tell the officials that they switched VIN numbers on the Alpine.

This is why getting a car TAC inspected is so important and that these illegal and falsifies "Tigers" be identified and "reshelling" or "rebodying" Alpines with a Tiger title be condemned at all levels.

I think if it had a reproduction air cleaner on it then there would be no reason to doubt this car..haha. Over all a nice car, they should just call it what it is and enjoy the car with no stories to go along with it.

Almost There

I think if it had a reproduction air cleaner on it then there would be no reason to doubt this car..haha. Over all a nice car, they should just call it what it is and enjoy the car with no stories to go along with it.

...and with the original (legal) VIN number attached.

Tiger or not

Jim does a nice easy Tiger hunters 101 and simply Googles the B382100442 Tiger and lot of hits come up. Try it you get old Tigers email archives and nearly everything search with and without the LRXFE.

Try https://www.google.com/search?q=b9470046+tiger&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8

or this one http://www.team.net/html/tigers/2005-02/msg00342.html

Lots of chatter even back in the beginning of the Tiger information availability

Even back in 2005 pictures of what a VIN is supposed to look like even then, was readily available so I don't think the Austrians have a leg to stand on.

I suspect if the car was re imported to the USA and it had a vin that was in a insurance company or law enforcement database as stolen they'd have some explaining to do.

To be the devils advocate I looked on a insurance company used vin check and got zip.

I like the quote " Nice collection of parts" I give it a mega *

That car is a fake from A - Z. The guy is trying to sell it since years but nobody stupid enough over here to buy it. Could have a short look on it when it was exhibited on the last Classic car show in Stuttgart. Fake stuff everywhere not only the tags - plus another incompletely covered VIN on the firewall. Bondoed top hats, etc. too much to list...

Unselleable over here on the continent ...

I know that car since it was listed at Ebay.de in 2006 or 7 already with the Mk2 VIN and original old Austrian Mk2 documents but in the red condition. I called my Swiss friend Lucas Waldis who was looking for a real Mk2. After he arrived in Vienna to have a view, we did a conference call to check all Mk2 typical points. The Austrian car documents were really original, but the rest was, as Norman wrote, a mishmash of a Mk1 and Mk1a, not a single piece came from a Tiger Mk2.
As Lucas arrived back in Zurich, he informed Norman about the fraud and the rest can be read at Norman's side. So the fraud starts in the US but goes on in Europe
Thomas

Thank goodness for you, Lucas and Norm then otherwise someone would be mighty pissed off.

Another victory for the Tiger community -

"Hello Mr. Samouce,

I checked the link and took the car from our website.

Thank you for your support!

Mario"

Would call it a temporary victory since he certainly will try it somewhere later again...
