Nice EBAY '65

Should the "amps, temp and oil" gauges have the needle sweep the other way--ie...on the top?

Looks like a very nice car except for a few odds and ends, and, to my eye, it sits too high.

they are completely the incorrect gauges with the needles going down.. not sunbeam fitted. Quite silly given they are comon to S3-IV alpines, and the oil and amp from a SI-Ii would work if you paint the needles.

Also the dynatape labelling of the switches on the plain wood dash is quite low end.

then there is the home made vin:

Animal house the court room scene, the Deltas start sneezing Blow J__

That's what the first bid is. Vin Trophy shop engraving , let's hope the original goes with this car too:cool: These repops have been about for some time notice how the ink printing fades.

No talk of the TAC. What's the matter with Luan Mahogany paneling,

Fully Restored, It Says

I guess "restored" means different things to different folks. This car has been highly modified and there are not many original items left on it. The paint looks very nice and the brightwork looks nice and shiny. But the gauges, the engine, the radiator, the carb, shift knob, steering wheel, dashboard, chromed alternator, intake manifold, air filter housing, tool roll, wheels, and I'm sure a whole lot more never came on the car originally. The body looks very, very straight and a lot of the modifications are things that will improve the car.

I'm not sure what the seller means when, under "Vehicle Overview", he states "This 1965 Sunbeam Tiger is part of our private collection and is unavailable for sale at this time. " Uhhh, why then is it listed on eBay?

I was just going to post those very points but you beat me to it...;)

I think the car is fair game to beat up on when it starts off with 'fully restored' ... IMHO maybe fully re-'done' or re-'arranged'...
Some very innovative changes like putting that solenoid right up there on the booster bracket for easy access ;)

I wonder what that 'dimer' switch on the dash does...?? :p

It's a shame to ask this kind of money for the car when you can't go out and get a $400 correct dash. I hate that look. Nice car.

I have a dash question--I have seen other Tiger dashes like this but then I have seen Tigers that have beautiful looking dark "burlwood" type of dashes--what is the correct type of wood for these cars?

all tigers had the burled finish.. should be a ply base with veneer of burl walnut.. no glovebox door and white lettered labeling for switches direct on the dash under the varnish

What the King said!
During my early Tiger days I heard it was Carpathian Elm, and some may have been. But most were walnut. They may have used whatever burl they could get!

I have

read that but can't spell Carpathian Elm most days. I have some pictures of a very very original car and its dashboard , he's out of town and I don't like to post pictures of other people's cars , .
Be glad you don't have a early car with a plain Jane vinyl dash...

Later Chrysler's used Corinthian leather , as I'm sure you all know :)

ok--one more then----I have seen many Tigers with the white lettering and some with the little metal tag below the switches?? All should have the white lettering?

I think on the wood dash cars, only the blower is supposed to have the 'tag' and the other 3 switches have white lettering.. I bought a 'new' dash from England last year and it had no lettering so I used some white 'rub down' letters I had made and just did all 4 as I couldn't find the tag at the time in my Alpine stash...

BTW, the auction this thread is about has disappeared from eBay... can't even find it in the 'comepleteds'

Warren, I've always wondered how many Corinthians it took to do one car ?:D

Jim is correct,

All the wood dash cars had white lettering on the dash direct exceept the blower so it got the metal tags they used on the vynil dash alpines.

SUNBEAM....?

Eh .... what happened to the letters on the nose?... I guess the Body guy didn't know and the owner missed this one?
