The November meeting will include our annual swap meet, so dig up those parts taking up space and bring them in. In addition we can do miscellaneous minor fixits and we hope to be able to perform air/fuel ratio testing for those who requested it. Senior TAC inspector Jere Teepen is collecting requests for TAC inspections, so if you want have this performed, please contact him and he will confirm if you can be accommodated.
Although not required by our bylaws, nominations for officers and board members have customarily taken place at the November meeting. The bylaws currently stipulate that the election itself take place at an annual meeting in December. In past years this has been in conjunction with the CHP Chips for Kids Toy Drive at the Speed Zone in La Puente. However, we have not been able to confirm that the Toy Drive will be held there this year. And because it’s the holiday season and weather can be unpredictable, member turnout has been variable over the years.
In an effort to make the election process more inclusive, accessible and convenient for more of our members, the officers and board have unanimously voted for an amendment allowing elections to be held in either November or December. This will permit both nominations and voting to take place at the November 15 meeting. The club’s leaders believe this will make it possible for more to participate in the entire process, at a more convenient time of year and at an event that is popular and well attended. And besides, November is always the political campaign season!
This amendment must be ratified by a majority of members in person at the November meeting. If it is approved at that time, nominations and a ballot will follow.
I believe this is a sensible change, and sincerely hope that you will make some time to join this important election meeting which will begin at 11:30. I also hope you will consider serving, either in an elected position or as a function chairperson. C.A.T. exists only if people volunteer.
See you there,
Mike Michels, 2014 C.A.T. President.
