On the firewall edge of a stock air cleaner, what numbers do you guys have?
Seen at least 2 different sets of numbers.

Possibly one was on the early cars and one later. This may be impossible to know anymore with the way the part has bounced about cars now.

If you all at Suni can chime in it will help with the accurate reproduction now in the final stages.

2 Different Sets = 2 Different #s

Warren,

Chromed cover for MK 1A is: 69024 H6 (note space btwn 4 & H)
Painted cover from MK 1 is: 69024D6

PS email down, couldn't respond.

Regards,

Numbers

Mine has 69024 no letter front or rear .
Was not on my MKII when bought.
Bought it a Tiger east annual convention many year ago for 125.00$

Gilles

Me too

Mine is painted has the 69024 number . Lee with his mostly original car has a way different no. I must be getting old because I used to remember numbers really well but I think his is different too.

I'm on the team with Lee , & I have one of his proofs in my sticky fingers, primered that is.

Of particular interest is the crisp features of the stamping . Most appear less crisp, possibly a feature governed by the amount of paint , or quality of the chrome plating .

Why not leave that number off the repro so as to be able to tell them apart in the future? Eric

Oops

Sorry , I do not have H 6 on mine just like another members. Eric the goal is to make them indistinguishable from original. Right now IMHO they are better than original.
Mine is coming off and being replaced by a chrome one, not cause I like having another part to clean , but be cuz I don't like somebody tapping on it with their fingernails saying is it real or fiberglass?

What is the significance of that number?

If it is a part number or a supplier code number it probably only has a couple of variants.

If it is a date code, there could be very many options all equally valid.

Mine is numbered 69024 with nothing else.

I bought is off ebay so I have no idea what vintage it is.

So another interesting discussion is started. What the correct number matching air cleaner for your car. I had to deal with this stuff on my concourse Oldsmobile 442. Cars built after a certain date had washers on a part. There was a strike in 1970 and before the strike intake manifolds were different than after, california smog cars in 1970 had a fin cut off the aluminum differential cover for the extra fuel line. Numbers were checked on everything. Are our Tiger judges that detailed? I even had to find stock 14x7 poverty cap wheels with correct date code and XT stamping. Try to find a set of those, everyone that ordered a poverty cap car threw away the wheels and replaced them with mags. Uggg. Lee

So my thinking is that the reproduction should have the 69024 and let the owner decide if the car is going to be concourse judged. If so, additional letters can be correctly stamped into the edge to code the air cleaner to the car.

With the numbers at the rear are they visible when the air cleaner is on? Is there any mention of these numbers in the BON?

When you're all through checking those original period, factory images to see which way the air cleaner top gets mounted, then we'll have to rerun the numbers poll. Here's mine.

Now this changes the whole conversation Norm........:)
I wonder what else I have on backwards, haha.

Numbers on original AC air cleaner

B9472632 and B382000521 are both stamped 69024, no letters.

B382000241 stamped 69024. It was chromed when I purchased the car- chrome likely done by PO. It's now powder coated light gray.

If a couple Tiger concourse judges would chime in about the numbers it would help in this discussion. Lee

Thanks Norm for correcting the air cleaner position. A lot of people are going to loose points at shows now if they don't read this post.

50/50

Bruce it's a 50/50 thing mine is on backwards too. Great input guys.

While on the subject, a couple of other items. Most of the Hammertone paints "rattle can" the fish eyes or hammered effect is rather large. The best silver hammered look would be a nice add to the discussion. Just for fun how about the chroming of the top only why was it the top only?

We had been discussing the numbers we have seen. It is and has been a point with the fiberglass repops, I recall them being marked with the 69024.
