Oil Leaking from this fitting

Hi,
Changed the oil on my bone stock Mk1a, got everything back together and oil is leaking from this fitting were it rotates below the nut.
I am guessing that I will have to replace the hose(s), who makes hose assemblies that are closest in appearance to original? I see that Rick sells them, anyone using them?
I have a shorty Wix and nipple to use for now, but want to go back to the stock look.

All the best,

Paul

Oil leaking

Take that fitting apart, at the bottom of the female fitting insert a rubber O ring the appropriate size. When you put the male back together, the rubber O ring will mushroom out and seal the connection. It’s a one time use, if you need to take it apart again, put a new O ring in again. This can be done with the other oil fittings also. I used this method for years with trouble free use. A hydraulic guy at work told me about it and that’s what he uses on all fittings like this. I hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply, appreciate it.
I'm going to run it again later today to be positive, but I believe it is leaking from the swivel below the hex, as opposed to above where it threads into the top aluminum housing.
I am not familiar with hydraulic hose fittings, I am guessing that there is some type of seal at the swivel that has deteriorated over time?

Thanks,

Paul

Oil fitting leaking

If you find out that the crimped portion of the fitting is leaking, there may be hope. A friend of mine has a very original car, he went to great lengths to restore all the components. One exercise he went through in his restoration was the crimped portion of the hose. He bought new hoses but decided to use the original crimped portion as he tried to find new original examples but couldn’t at the time. He carefully pried them opened, cleaned them and took them to a hydraulic shop for crimping. The hydraulic shop performed the work but did not guarantee that it would work like new. He still has them on his car. If your looking for new hoses, I know of a source. PM me if you want to go this route.
I hope this helps.

How about

Sean AKA Austinhealer509 or a close name. He's listed some repop MK2 hoses and the other stock one's. I've found him to be a good reliable client and vendor. I'm sure he'd welcome an out of eBay transaction. I have his contact information if needed.

Thanks for the great info guys, much appreciated.
I have removed the hoses from the car, one is original and the other a replacement, probably from the eighties.
I spoke with some of my local car buddies, they have recommended a couple of local hydraulic hose specialists who they say can reproduce them.
I'll try to visit this week, we'll see what they say. If that doesn't workout, I'll contact you for your sources.

All the best,

Paul

Hi guys,
I visited two local hydraulic hose shops and so far no luck for a couple of reasons. The pipe shops said that they don't do reverse flares, also don't have that size pipe (1/2'?).

One hose is original, the other was probably redone in the eighties based on the date on the hose.
If you look at the photo below I've circled the the areas where I have issues, in a clockwise direction as follows.

1st: Leaking from the crimp, it rotates and apparently should not, also rotaes at the bottom.

2nd: I damaged this pipe when removing, the wrench slipped and the pipe turned at the base and it crushed.

3rd: This flare requires a great deal of force to seal, I fear that it is getting thin so I would prefer to replace this pipe.

I was recommended one more local hose shop, local means I pay in Canadian dollars, if this one doesn't pan out I'll look to the US.

Tks, Paul

Do They Look Stock?

I don't know what Sunbeam Specialties hoses look like, but there are Tiger owners who want to retain original parts if possible, or at least have replacement parts which look like originals. It would be nice if the SS oil lines had the same hose material, same fittings, and same crimps as the originals. I recognize that it is not always possible to accurately reproduce a part.

Vendor

Below is a guy who I met selling AC housing or some other spare Tiger specific bit or piece. He had some of the hoses on eBay some time ago and sells some battery cables that look stock. I have a set of hoses on a remote oil filter, but not sure if they are original or fabbed. In any case at some time my MK1A will probably have the stock look filter. I'd put anyone interested in touch with Sean.
We've never talked as hearing issues prevent conversation. I'd give him a good review on my trading. He's sent me pictures of his projects and clients cars. I like it when guys do that as then I feel like my cars are not so bad ;)

Just let me know. I need the OE long hose to make the sets as I have had an issue getting a person to supply me with the 180 tube. I take the originals and silver solder them to a new crimp fitting.
